When fans of America’s team flooded AT&T Stadium on October 13th, little did they expect that they would be a part of one of the worst losses in Dallas Cowboys’ history. And all this at the hands of a Detroit Lions team just a few years removed from obscurity.
Owner Jerry Jones would have never envisioned a worse birthday present when the Lions rubbed it in with a play involving offensive tackle Dan Skipper.
The game was truly done and dusted when Amon-Ra St. Brown converted Dak Prescott‘s second interception into a touchdown. With a commanding 47-9 lead, Lions head coach Dan Campbell decided to play his second-stringers.
With Hendon Hooker brought in to get a feel for the game, the offensive coaches decided to make things tricky for the Dallas Cowboys. They reported backup offensive tackle Dan Skipper as eligible and first lined him up as usual along the offensive line.
The score is 47-9. The #Lions are now sending OT Dan Skipper out wide and making him run a route (wait for the replay, it's even better).

Then, as part of an audible, Skipper and backup tight end Brock Wright broke away to the right side and aligned as receivers. The tackle was seen in a receiver’s stance opposite Cowboys practice squad player and former Lions star Amani Oruwariye. Eventually, the play did not turn out as expected once the Cowboys’ pass rush broke through and sacked Hooker.
But it goes to show that the Detroit Lions did not want to stop at that score. They wanted their second unit to also get a feel for scoring in a regular season game, as it will help in building up the confidence of those players who hardly get a chance to play. But even then, fans found this trick play a bit too extreme.
Dan Skipper play has fans feeling bad for Dallas Cowboys
By lining up Skipper as a receiver, fans felt it was a slap in the face of the Dallas Cowboys. It showed that America’s team does not have what it takes to handle the red-hot Lions.
Three Detroit Lions offensive linemen joined the passing game, proving to fans that it extended beyond just this play. As starting tackle Taylor Decker could not haul in a touchdown, opposite tackle Penei Sewell fell just short of one.
Fans saw the Cowboys’ morale crumble as their team fell behind by nearly 40 points. Therefore, for the Lions to continue to rub salt led fans to feel bad for the Cowboys. Check out some examples of those social media comments below;

As a die hard Cowboys fan, this is hilarious! This is what we need. Nobody takes us seriously

Thankfully for the Cowboys, the ball did not reach Dan Skipper. Else the conversations among fans would have been about how the 330lb tackle bulldozed past the 200lb corner for a big gain.
The narratives would have been different, and the negative publicity would have driven Cowboys fans into hiding.
