The hype game has a new name – CEO Dana White’s unrelenting trust in Jon Jones. The best ever to do it, per the company taskmaster, ‘Bones’ was on a long layoff for three years when he returned to win heavyweight gold vs. Ciryl Gane in March 2023. Despite the lack of appearance though, White upholds that Jon Jones is a pound-for-pound G.O.A.T. Now the 55-year-old takes the claims to a whole new level.

White and his 12-plus-minute exchange with veteran columnists/reporters Kevin Iole and John Morgan last week started a chain reaction of online posts/memes about him acting like a hype-man. Defending it, the brass has now released a whole segment celebrating Jones during the Contender Series 70 (DWCS) event broadcast. It sees the fighter’s top moments against the likes of Gane, Glover Teixeira, Alexander Gustafsson, Lyoto Machida, and others.

Following last week’s Contender Series 69, Dana White hit back at claims of favoritism and ‘glazing’ in UFC discourse. Tagging Jon Jones in an unrelated ESPN post, he even relished in recent memes about it. He had designs of silencing retractors who chimed against his defending Jones as UFC’s top pound-for-pound. Even Team Jackson’s MMA Acoma’s top standout tweeted about “special surprises” incoming. They have done just that.

There’s no denying that Jones (27-1 MMA, 20-1 UFC) is one the best to do it. However, he constantly snubs Tom Aspinall from title unification and the same chance to work toward a bloated legacy. The Brit even had to score a rare defense of the interim belt at UFC 304 in July in his absence. To have such prominence on a leave is something fans find ridiculous. As such, the matter has gone quite viral.

Fight fans react to new ‘Jon Jones’ career promo

Per UFC Recordbook (statleaders.ufc.com) Jon Jones’ [13] win streak at LHW is the best in the division and fourth overall. With a mammoth 15 count, ‘Bones’, 37, has the most number of title wins ever. Behind the troublesome Aspinall and Philipe Lins, the all-around indomitable G.O.A.T. candidate has the third-least bottom position percentage.

So when Tuesday’s Contender Series 70 saw veteran commentators Joe Rogan and Jon Anik in the video montage saying just how good Jones is, it’s all true. But despite having addressed the topic numerous times, Dana White and his UFC making a whole segment out of it is sort of an overdrive. Here’s how the MMA community has pitched in.

It is no secret that Dana White holds Jon Jones in very high regard. Despite his several unlawful run-ins and unwanted disputes regarding PED usage, Jones is a top crop. It may very well be that he defeats Aspinall and overtakes current top pound-for-pound Islam Makhachev. However, the sheer multitude of times White promoted it himself has been surprising.

The likes of Sean O’Malley and Georges St-Pierre consider that Jones has been sporadic and that Makhachev has leapfrogged above. But the blatant narrative against the possibility that Jones might not be the ultimate in UFC continues.
