Dana White has long been known for his no-nonsense leadership style, an approach that helped him turn the UFC from a struggling promotion into a multibillion-dollar global powerhouse. That same attitude was evident when he addressed speculation about Jon Jones‘ potential role at the White House event. White dismissed the rumors and confirmed that Jones is fully retired and will not return to competition.
Jones returned to the UFC in 2023 after a three-year layoff and quickly captured the heavyweight championship. He won the title with a guillotine choke victory over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Jones was later positioned to face then interim champion Tom Aspinall in a heavyweight unification bout. However, the Albuquerque legend retired after defending his belt against then 41-year-old Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
However, after the UFC White House event was announced, Jones ended his retirement and expressed interest in returning on the historic card. The situation remained complicated as White had grown frustrated over Jones’ refusal to fight Aspinall and his extended inactivity. Speaking at the UFC 326 post-fight press conference, the UFC boss explained that Jones was never considered for the event.
I told you guys 100,000 times wasn’t Jon Jones even remotely in my mind to fight at the White House. First of all, I’ve told you why I wouldn’t do it and No. 2 some guy with Meta glasses on filmed him talking about his hips, that his hips are so bad. Jon Jones, he retired because of his hips. He’s got arthritis in his hips, apparently doctors say he should have hip replacements. What’s even crazier, Jon Jones came out and was like, ‘I’m in negotiations right now for the White House fight,’ after I had already sent a text to his lawyer saying, ‘Never going to happen, ever’.

White also referenced concerns about Jon Jones dealing with arthritis, which resurfaced after footage appeared from a Dirty Boxing event. In the backstage clip, Jones acknowledged he could not wrestle because of the condition. The video quickly went viral and caught his attention. The former two-division champion later clarified that the issue had affected him for years and said the UFC already knew about it.
Jones remained determined to secure a spot on the UFC White House card and continued to try to convince White to include him in the lineup. The former champion admitted he was willing to set aside his pride and directly appeal for the opportunity. Jones also released a promotional message explaining why he believed he was an ideal candidate for the historic event, emphasizing his American heritage.
However, Dana White has officially announced the UFC White House event as Freedom Fights 250 during the live UFC 326 broadcast. The card, scheduled for June 14 at the White House, is being promoted as one of the biggest shows in UFC history. With the lineup now moving forward, the UFC CEO’s recent comments have effectively closed the door on Jon Jones making a return to the Octagon.
Dana White diminishes speculation of fight fixing during UFC 326
The betting controversy involving Isaac Dulgarian erupted after suspicious wagering surrounded his fight with Yadier del Valle at a UFC event. Dulgarian opened as a heavy favorite, but the odds suddenly shifted toward del Valle before the bout. Del Valle then won by first-round submission, intensifying scrutiny around the result. A frustrated Dana White later revealed the FBI had been brought in to investigate.

A similar issue emerged at UFC 326 during the lightweight bout between Drew Dober and Michael Johnson. In the hours leading up to the fight, betting odds unexpectedly shifted toward Dober, with sportsbooks such as FanDuel and DraftKings removing several betting options due to the unusual activity. This led White to dismiss concerns about the legitimacy of the matchup during the press conference.
Zero legitimacy to this.

The bout still proceeded as scheduled, and Dober secured a second-round knockout victory over Johnson. The result added further scrutiny for Johnson, whose recent fights have drawn attention over betting concerns. His scheduled bout with Alexander Hernandez at UFC 324 was previously canceled due to last-minute betting line fluctuations. Dana White maintained the promotion is taking fight integrity issues seriously.
