The UFC lightweight division remains the most stacked, and Arman Tsarukyan is once again eyeing a long-awaited title shot opportunity. Earlier this year, the Armenian was forced to pull out of a title fight against Islam Makhachev due to an unfortunate injury. Now fully recovered, Tsarukyan is ready to face Ilia Topuria, the newly crowned lightweight champion.

Since Topuria’s dominant win over Charles Oliveira at UFC 318, Tsarukyan has repeatedly demanded his long-overdue title shot. Despite constant callouts, the Georgian-Spanish star has ignored Tsarukyan, openly admitting he has no interest in fighting him anytime soon. Unfazed by the rejection, Tsarukyan recently took a jab at the champion on social media, mocking his reluctance to engage.

Islam has a great quote at the UFC PI, he will fight anybody, anytime, and anywhere – Hey Dana maybe now’s a good time to put a quote in the bathroom for Ilia reminding him not to sit down while pissing – thanks boss

The quote Tsarukyan mentioned was originally from Makhachev, who once said champions should fight anybody, anytime, anywhere. ‘El Matador’ previously used that same quote to criticize Makhachev when the Dagestani moved up divisions without defending his belt against him.

Now, fans accuse Topuria of hypocrisy, claiming he’s doing the exact same thing by allegedly ducking and avoiding a fight with Tsarukyan. However, UFC CEO Dana White explicitly said after UFC 317 that Tsarukyan would not receive the title shot next.

Topuria has shown greater interest in fighting Paddy Pimblett, even participating in a heated face-off that quickly went viral. The intense staredown between Topuria and Pimblett was widely praised by fans, adding more hype to their potential high-stakes clash. According to ‘El Matador,’ a fight against the popular Scouser is far bigger than facing Tsarukyan due to Pimblett’s global fanbase.

At the same time, UFC CEO Dana White hasn’t shown much enthusiasm about booking Topuria against Paddy Pimblett for the lightweight title next. This uncertainty surrounding the next title challenger has left fight fans confused and eagerly waiting for an official announcement from the UFC.

Is the Arman Tsarukyan vs. Ilia Topuria title fight scheduled?

Despite Ilia Topuria’s clear refusal to face Arman Tsarukyan next, the determined title contender refuses to back down from the challenge. The Armenian star has intensified his trolling campaign, even offering a bold $500K wager just to get inside Topuria’s head and provoke him. The contender also mocked Topuria’s wrestling skills and confidently vowed to finish him inside the cage and walk away with gold.

Many analysts, including Dan Hooker, have speculated on why Topuria could be hesitant to face the dangerous contender Tsarukyan next. According to the former bantamweight champ, Sean O’Malley, the Armenian is the toughest opponent with the lowest potential for pay-per-view sales.

After all Pimblett and Justin Gaethje has more star value for PPV sales compared to the Armenian fighter. Amidst all the ongoing debates, UFC veteran Chael Sonnen recently revealed some insider information regarding the promotion’s plans for the lightweight title.

I’m going to officially give you some of the worst kept secret matchups going on in MMA right now, Ilia Topuria is fighting Arman Tsarukyan and yes, I am telling you that. That fight is done, just so you understand… He’s not denying the fight, he has his approach that he has found to build fights.

This isn’t the first time Sonnen has made such claims, and without any official announcement, it’s hard to confirm the news. Nevertheless, if it happens, Tsarukyan does have a great opportunity to beat the champ with his wrestling. On the other hand, the ‘El Matador’ will always be the betting favorite for his incredible knockout power and ongoing undefeated streak.
