‘Sean Shelby missed that one’ – Dana White blames the matchmaker for the recent Jeremy Stephens-Drakkar Klose mishap

Jeremy Stephens shoves Drakkar Klose
The co-main event at the recently concluded UFC Fight Night : Whittaker vs Gastelum, between Drakkar Klose and Jeremy Stephens was cancelled due to Drakkar Klose suffering serious injuries just before the fight. Even more shocking was the way in which he was injured. During the face-offs Jeremy Stephens shoved Klose so had that the whiplash had caused serious cervical injuries, resulting in nausea and vomiting.
Dana White speaking in an interview with TSN, addressed the issue and he criticized matchmaker Sean Shelby who was at the scene. He added that it was the matchmaker’s job to prevent such mishaps from happening, but Shelby failed on that night.

White was quoted as saying, “There is a rule. That’s why we’re there. Sean Shelby missed that one. Sean and I see this thing differently. I saw it on social media and called him immediately. … I saw the thing happen on social media and I called Sean and I was like, ‘Where was your head on that one?’ He was coming in hot and it’s Jeremy Stephens, he’s a savage.”
White continued, “I mean, we’re not standing there to look good and take pictures. We’re there to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
As White says, Shelby could have stopped that one, but it all happened in a jiffy, as Stephens pushed Klose out of nowhere. This incident is certainly the first of its kind. What are your thoughts on this? Should Sean Shelby have handled the situation better, as the UFC President says? Or there was nothing the matchmaker could have done, given the way Jeremy Stephens was charging at Klose?
