Very few sports, like rugby, pose a threat to an athlete’s life or can cause life-changing injuries. However, the risk of this happening is far greater when it comes to combat sports. This is why combat sports are not regarded as games because fighters often stake their lives while fighting. As such, Dana White recently addressed the stress that comes because of this and compared the death toll between boxing and the UFC.
Combat sports can cause fighters to suffer permanent brain damage or worse. As such, during an interview on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast, White revealed that he’s always concerned about a fighter getting hurt during a fight. He remarked that combat sports are brutal, but mentioned how he takes certain precautions to minimize risks.
There's never been a death or serious injury in 30 years of doing the UFC. On average, four to five boxers die a year.Dana White via the Club Random podcast

It is a well-known fact that boxing causes far more causalities compared to MMA. This is mainly because of the repeated blows to the head that the fighter suffers compared to an MMA fight. Beyond this, White takes extra precautions to ensure the safety and well-being of his fighters.
The UFC CEO revealed that they spend a lot of money to check the fighter’s health. They also make sure the fighter receives the medical attention that he needs before and after the fight. White also mentioned that they double-check the fighter’s health status with the hospital after their doctors check them.
White compares the safety standard of Power Slap to Boxing
This is not the first time White has addressed the difference in causalities between boxing and the UFC. Hence, when White launched ‘Power Slap‘ he brought up the health and safety measures that they enforce as an organization.

Dana White spoke about this during an interview with the My Mom’s Basement podcast. As such, the UFC CEO revealed that they have enforced the same safety measures in Power Slap that they employ in the UFC. While discussing this, he brought up how there have been no casualties in the UFC.

Subsequently, he mentioned how 34 deaths have occurred in boxing since 2001. White brought this point out to highlight the difference in their safety measures. Hence, the UFC CEO takes great pride in the effectiveness and efficiency of the UFC medical facilities.
