Boxing has been a prominent combat sport for many years. Its popularity has increased with several boxing stars becoming global icons. As such, even their promoters gained massive recognition. Due to its popularity, UFC CEO, Dana White has confirmed his upcoming involvement in boxing.
Before his recent announcement, Dana White wasn’t a big fan of boxing. He felt that the sport often had unexciting fights and lacked important elements for globally televised events. White specifically criticized the poor production quality in boxing. Given the UFC’s success in putting on visually appealing shows, White is confident he can bring about a similar revolution in boxing.
I have a plan. I’m going to implement that plan and we’ll see how it works... I have always had an idea of how I thought it should be done. I don’t know if that’s possible, but we’re going to find out. I’m coming in guns blazing...Dana White via DWCS 73 presser
This comes after White’s promises to give massive updates about his boxing endeavors in early 2025. As such, several prominent individuals in the community came in to support Dana White’s aspirations. Renowned boxing coach Teddy Atlas, in particular, seemingly cited the UFC CEO’s business model in his promotion for its success. Moreover, he even feels White can play a big role in further popularizing boxing.
Similar to Atlas, boxing legend Mike Tyson also believes White can change the landscape of boxing. All these statements come after the UFC CEO’s recent successful events. The Saudi GEA-backed Noche UFC (UFC 306) is a prime example. Interestingly, the UFC CEO and the chairman of the Saudi GEA Turki Alalshikh seemingly share a great camaraderie between them. That being said, it will be interesting to see if these two combat sports giants collaborate in boxing as well.
Can Dana White tie up with Turki Alalshikh for future boxing events?
In 2017, Dana White suggested the possibility of venturing into the realm of boxing with the announcement of his new project, Zuffa Boxing. However, the enthusiasm for this endeavor waned rapidly, suggesting that White still viewed himself primarily as a UFC promoter and that boxing was not his forte. This perception has changed recently, as White has indicated that he might reconsider promoting boxing.
Saudi Delegate, Turki Alalshikh is currently one of the frontrunners in the world of pro-boxing. Over a short period, he earned immense respect from everyone in the community. Similar to White, Alalshikh also aims to deliver highly competitive fights. Given their budding friendship, the UFC CEO was questioned about the possibility of joining hands with the Saudi Delegate in a recent presser.
He's (Turki Alalshikh) announcing a league in 25 (2025)?... (on a potential tie up with Alalshikh) You never know...Dana White via DWCS 73 presser
This comes after the reporter cited Turki Alalshikh’s wish to purchase several promotions to create a boxing league. White seemingly wants to keep that possibility open. With that being said, the high-quality production that the UFC CEO would bring will be interesting to see. Moreover, it would further elevate the stature of boxing as well.
