The UFC 319 event in Chicago hosted a power-packed main card that delivered entertaining results with entertaining knockouts and a new champion. Speaking on the topic of entertaining knockouts, it is hard not to mention welterweight prospect Carlos Prates. The Brazilian was seen smoking a cigarette at the post-fight press conference, which caught the attention of UFC CEO Dana White.
Prates delivered an extraordinary performance as he knocked out Geoff Neal with a spinning elbow strike. However, after the fight, Prates was seen smoking a cigarette while answering questions at the post-fight press conference. The ‘Nightmare’ described a post-knockout smoke as an “amazing experience”. However, White noticed the strong smell of smoke when he arrived to answer questions.

Prates’ smoking antics were also noticed by fellow UFC 319 victor Lerone Murphy. Both Murphy and Prates were artists of spinning elbow knockouts at the event. Murphy appeared visibly confused and said, “Smelling like cigarettes up here.” Prates is infamous for his unique lifestyle and has been seen smoking on multiple occasions; however, he believes that it does not affect his training and fighting prowess.
The welterweight prospect uses a precise Muay Thai arsenal, including strong leg kicks, crisp boxing combinations, and the efficient use of knees and elbows in close range. He maintains a high guard, using feints to provoke reactions and replies with powerful shots. The ‘Nightmare’ is light on the feet and counters with quick movement.
He has a record of 7 wins and one loss in the UFC. The Brazilian striker faced a loss in the UFC for the first time when he faced off against Ian Machado Garry, who agreed to fight on short notice in his last fight. However, Prates was able to successfully bounce back from the loss and provide a highlight reel knockout over Neal. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the ‘Nightmare’.
Carlos Prates shows interest in fighting Michael ‘Venom’ Page
Prates has a promising future ahead of him and has already set eyes on his next opponent. The welterweight prospect wants to prove himself against a fellow UFC 319 fighter, Michael ‘Venom’ Page. After delivering the spinning elbow knockout, Prates asked Dana White for his next fight to be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The 32-year-old was answering questions after his fight when he was informed of MVP’s willingness to fight him in Rio. However, Prates seemed more interested in fighting former welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Despite this, he did not seem to dismiss entirely the idea of a fight against MVP.
Anybody who steps into the cage on 11th October in Rio, I will be there. The first option is Leon; I am here to fight the best. He (Page) spar me for a long time, and if UFC give me him then let’s fight.

The potential opponents were seen sharing a chat backstage at UFC 319. Prates holds MVP in high regard and revealed that they have sparred together in the past. The reporter revealed MVP had asked for a five-round co-main event. Prates replied by saying that he enjoyed three round fight, but has to celebrate his win, get back in the gym and devise a new game plan if he had to fight five rounds.
A fight between the ‘Nightmare’ and MVP promises an entertaining night for the fans as both fighters are fan favorites and have electrifying fighting prowess. However, the Brazilian star has admitted that he wanted to be the best and would fight anyone to prove himself, which leaves room for other higher ranked welterweights to challenge the Brazilian.
