Zhang Weili has now established himself as one of the most dominant female fighters in UFC history. The Strawweight queen defended her title against top contender Tatiana Suarez in a dominating fight at UFC 312. Now, fans are eager to know what’s next for the Chinese superstar, and it seems like Dana White might have the answer for it.
After the win at UFC 312, Zhang Weili has now won six title fights in the division’s history. It is the same number of wins as Joanna Jedrzejczyk’s record. Many are excited to see her move up and fight the pound-for-pound number one Valentina Shevchenko at flyweight. When asked about this super fight, CEO White gave a positive reaction.
It’s a possibility.

Shevchenko is considered one of the GOATs of women’s MMA and has dominated the women’s flyweight division for the last seven years. She has defended her title seven times and recently won it for the second time at UFC 306. In her last performance, she defeated former champion Alexa Grasso via unanimous decision.

Valentina Shevchenko is currently on her last stint as a professional fighter. At the age of 36, she is looking forward to new challenges, and fighting Weili could be that one. The Strawweight champion has also shown interest in moving up and becoming a double champion. Now, it depends whether the UFC wants to book it or not.
Zhang Weili talks about being the underdog going into UFC 312
Ahead of UFC 312, Tatiana Suarez had a huge hype behind her, given her background in wrestling. She is a former US representative of freestyle wrestling, and has proven herself on various occasions. She came into the fight with a six-fight win streak, and was the betting favorite to win the title.

Many believe that it was quite disrespectful for Zhang Weili to be the underdog, given her accomplishments. At UFC 312, she shocked everyone and dominated the contender for five rounds. After the fight, when asked about being the underdog, the Chinese fighter shared her mental toughness as the champion.
I don’t care what people say whether I’m an underdog or not. I just wanna focus on myself….I think my biggest advantage is my mentality. I think all the fighters in the top level have the skillset but the difference is whether you have the right mentality.
