When President Donald Trump spoke about a concept White House PPV card in the South Lawn in 2026, Jon Jones did a callback on his retirement. The ex-UFC heavyweight champ has always said he needs head-turning fights that make a proper dent in his legacy, not ‘UK-famous’ (only) Tom Aspinall.
A White House fight card fit the bill just right. However, UFC CEO Dana White didn’t think it was a good idea to solely market it around the unreliable ‘Bones’. Jon Jones even reentered the DFSI drug testing pool, two weeks after calling it quits.
Recently, the UFC GOAT candidate thanked Trump for instigating such a PPV concept card for the ‘America 250’ Celebration for next year, July 4. However, Dana White nixed the prospect, and the fighter even gave his reaction to it.
Following his preliminary designation of Jones vs. Tom Aspinall as his “dream headliner” for a superfight, White swiftly revised it. That is because, per the UFC boss, Jones took a U-Turn from a ‘done deal’ already. Especially considering Jones’s history of issues and the logistics of a White House card, he felt it was a big ask. Subsequently, Joe Rogan bills White made the correct call on this:
[With White House card] …Now he wants to fight for the title at the White House and Dana is like — ‘Nope, I can’t trust Jon to not fu*k something up’. It is…It is too risky [for Dana]. It’s a story as old as time isn’t it…[With Jon].

Along with fellow commentator Daniel Cormier, Rogan is assumed to again lead the commentary booth for this fight, which is almost a year away. He’s always on hand for US-based pay-per-view shows, only missing UFC 318 for the first time in three years. The JRE host obviously want to be on tap for a Jones fight, whom he often lauds for his fight IQ and longevity through multiple eras.
However, Rogan reverberates what Dana White said, that the UFC execs would be liable for something that goes wrong, which is a big thing when arranging a card at the White House.
For one, the Albuquerque, New Mexico resident has a pending hearing for an alleged misdemeanor and then obtained evidence of charging the PSA Agents on it. He also hasn’t closed the book on allegedly making drunken, violent threats at the DFSI drug test pool agent Crystal Martinez in a Bernalillo County (New Mexico) court arraignment. Jones pleaded not guilty to that, providing closed-circuit footage.
These are only the tip of the iceberg that is the contentious history of Jones. It is something that he often passes on to others or mentions in crass remarks, touting his long legacy. One such a thing happened not that long ago with the retired two-time UFC rival Cormier.
Daniel Cormier retorted to Jon Jones’s claim that he hurt his life the most in UFC rivalry
The Jon Jones vs. Cormier UFC saga is perhaps the most stretched rivalry. The duo has had quite a few altercations, much to the woe of boss Dana White. It had more history and gravitas than even the Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor scuffle and post-fight brawl. It is something that ‘Bones’ relishes even to this day.

Cormier fought him two times, but lost on both counts despite his best efforts. However, the second scrap at UFC 214 was overturned to a no-contest after ‘Bones’ tested positive for a Turinabol metabolite. During a subsequent testing pool, Jones also lit up coming in positive for estrogen blockers, clomiphene, and letrozole, against Ovince Saint Preux.
‘DC’ has always presented that “err is human,” but to come in the wrong so many times is typical Jon Jones behavior. However, the rival dumbed down the claims, saying people can change and should not be held for their past. Moreover, he bills Cormier is still salty about the two ‘Ls’ in his stat.
Whenever the topic is brought up, Jones says just as much in his lengthy Twitter-sprees. During the UFC 318 Weigh-In show, Cormier’s co-hosts, Paul Felder and Dan Hellie, presented a bill for a dream return fight.
DC joked it’d be in the comfort of his household, while his co-hosts quipped if the rival rhymed with ‘Mon Mones’. As in Jones, who quickly took to socials to respond that Cormier wouldn’t dare, and that he hurt him most in life. The latter had a bone to pick with that thought, having suffered much in life.
Yeah, it did suck to lose, …I can admit that. I’m a man. [It] Did suck to lose…It hurt a lot more, in 2017…That’s eight years past. I’m not stuck on that. Also, you can’t say that you’re the most painful thing that’s happened in a person’s life when they’ve lost a child! You say I’m the most painful thing that’s happened in a person’s life when they’ve lost a child or their father got murdered. But, again, he knows that. But that’s why you know you’re dealing with a different type of human being…

Cormier’s daughter was three months old when she died in a car accident in 2003. His father was murdered on Thanksgiving Day in 1986. However, Jones ignored the history at length to say Cormier lived in his head, rent-free. It looks like the rivalry will never end considering the personalities involved.
