Alex Pereira stands out as the UFC’s most active champion, defending his light heavyweight title three times last year. Within just seven months, the Brazilian accomplished this remarkable feat, defying the modern trend of less frequent title defenses. Showing unmatched dedication, Pereira is ready to surpass even that pace, cementing his reputation as Dana White‘s saving grace.
In just a few years in the UFC, Alex Pereira has become one of the biggest and most marketable MMA fighters. He has been part of the highest-grossing pay-per-view events and doesn’t shy away from challenges. In a recent interview, his coach talked about Pereira’s inclination towards fighting as frequently as possible.
Pereira shocked the world by winning the middleweight championship and then going up to get the light heavyweight title. Now the fighter has also shown interest in becoming a three-division champion by making his potential heavyweight debut. For the Brazilian, going up against Jon Jones seems like a dream match-up, which has also received support from fight fans.

Pereira is set to face what many consider his toughest challenge in the light heavyweight division yet, that is Magomed Ankalaev. The highly anticipated showdown is scheduled to headline UFC 313, with excitement building rapidly among fans. It would be interesting to see whether the Russian will exploit the champion’s lack of ground game.
Is wrestling the biggest threat for Alex Pereira?
Alex Pereira’s lack of a strong wrestling pedigree remains a notable weakness in his skill set. Primarily known for his elite striking, Pereira has occasionally struggled against opponents with high-level grappling. His defensive wrestling, though improving, can be exploited by skilled wrestlers.
It would probably take someone who would aim to neutralize his striking and control him on the ground. In his last fight at UFC 307, Khalil Rountree did find success against the champion but didn’t shoot for a takedown. According to UFC veteran Rampage Jackson, Rountree made a mistake that resulted in his brutal loss.
Jackson also revealed that back in his era, many light heavyweights would have directly shot for a takedown against Pereira. Many experts believe that at UFC 313, Magomed Ankalaev will have to fight with a similar approach and mix it up instead of just swinging and banging.
