After having the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft, as the Chicago Bears drafted Caleb Williams, they appear to have gained confidence for the playoff race in the upcoming season. They didn’t waste any second in signing D’Andre Swift as he became available.
Having a playmaker such as Williams leading the offense, the Bears are moving with a strategic approach to adding more offensive weapons to the active roster. That’s precisely the reason why the Bears added Swift. Head coach Matt Eberflus shared that the franchise was searching for a player to be both a weapon in the deep part of the field and the short part of the field and be able to take it the distance.
The running back fit their description and their offense revolving around Williams would offer ample opportunity for his playmaking. Swift moved to the Windy City.
It’s a great situation to walk into when you’ve got a rookie quarterback who has great potential and you’ve got guys around him who have been in the league for a couple of years.D’Andre Swift said via Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times
In addition to Williams and Swift, the Bears made some more splashy decisions this offseason– signing the veteran wide receiver Keenan Allen, who is coming off his best season in the NFL, and WR Rome Odunze, as they went through a rejuvenating phase and claim the status of a ‘Contenders’ among the top teams.
D’Andre Swift becomes the ninth highest-paid RB with Bears
Running back Swift is coming off his best and fleetest season in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. As soon as he became available, the Bears– who were already impressed with him, poached him from free agency on his very first day in the market.
They reportedly signed a three-year deal with Swift worth $24 million, including $15.3 million in guarantees. This new deal has made Swift the ninth highest-paid running back in the NFL as per annual average salary.
The Bears wanted a game-breaking running back, and they found that in Swift. Given, he earned his first Pro Bowl selection last season after finishing the season at 1,049 rushing yards on 229 carries along with an additional 214 receiving yards on 39 receptions.
