Days after losing his trilogy fight to Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 252, Daniel Cormier has finally decided to bid byes to UFC and MMA. He called it a day in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
He recently issued a statement on instagram where he reflected upon his career and thanked everyone for being a part of his career.
“Thank you all for the love and support. Not what I wanted or expected but it is what it is. Congrats to Stipe Miocic on a fantastic fight, was an honor and pleasure to share the Octagon with you for 50 minutes,” said a gracious Cormier.
“Boy did we give ‘em a show every time. To my team: I love you all to death, you’ve made so many sacrifices. I hope I made you guys proud. Salina and the kids: thank you for being my motivation. To all the fans: I love you so much. You guys push me to try and be great. To Dana White and the UFC I have loved every minute. Thank you for giving me the opportunity. Been a helluva ride, huh?”
Fight against Miocic affected the decision
He not only suffered a second straight loss to Stipe Miocic but also suffered a torn cornea in his right eye as the Heavyweight Champion poked him in the eye in the third round of the fight.
After the fight ended, Cormier revealed that he wasn’t able to see anything except the darkness. At the end of the fight, Miocic earned a clean win and ended his rivalry with Cormier.
DC has thus retired from the sport with 22 wins and three losses. Out of three, he has lost two to Stipe Miocic alone and one to Jon Jones. For now, he will be part of the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) and the broadcast team of UFC.
