There is no doubt that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar had a short but impactful career in the UFC. ‘The Beast Incarnate’ came into the promotion guns blazing, winning the heavyweight gold only in his third fight for the promotion when he knocked out Randy Couture at UFC 91. However, fans always wanted to see Lesnar fight against former double champion Daniel Cormier in a superfight. DC recently spoke out about the implications if that outing was booked.

Cormier was seen attending the ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast hosted by former American tight end Shannon Sharpe. The pair spoke on a variety of things, which covered both MMA and non-MMA topics. This is when Sharpe doubted DC’s confidence to beat Lesnar. However, Cormier was confident in his ability to defeat Lesnar in his prime. However, he also revealed how missing out on Lesnar was a significant drawback for him.

The WWE got him. They took him back. That was my golden goose. It was one of the safest fights I could have had. It’s just the truth. I watch what Cain did to him. I saw Brock recently, and he still has that scar under his eye from when Cain kneed him in the face.

There was a lot of animosity between the two heavyweights, and they were almost involved in a post-fight brawl. After defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, Cormier was full of energy as he had entered an elite club of double division champions. However, DC also called out Lesnar, who was present in the crowd that night. The WWE legend walked into the Octagon, responding to the callout and shoving Cormier.

This ignited the idea of a super fight between the former champion and the newly crowned double champion. However, ‘The Beast’ had signed back with the WWE and showed no intention of returning to an MMA career. Cormier defended his title once, ultimately losing it to Miocic the following year. DC also lost the trilogy match against Miocic, which finally led to his retirement at UFC 252 in 2020.

Lesnar had a career that incorporated a lot of ups and downs. He lost his UFC debut to Frank Mir via submission. However, the ‘Beast Incarnate’ went on to challenge Couture for championship gold and knocked out the UFC Hall of Famer in the second round.

He avenged his loss against Mir at the inaugural UFC 100 event. However, Lesnar lost to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121, which marked the end of his championship reign and, some would say, his MMA career. A fight between Cormier and Lesnar would have promised fireworks due to the intensity between the two fighters.

Lesnar’s explosive wrestling and ground-and-pound against Cormier’s elite clinch work, composure, and striking improvements. There were also rumours of a fight between the two in WWE. While many analysts favored Cormier for his well-rounded skill set and ability to handle big wrestlers, Lesnar’s sheer size and unpredictability made the matchup intriguing.

Cormier revealed the importance of standing up to bullies and the importance of learning martial arts to show the bullies their place. He revealed a story about how he used to be beaten up by a bully for “no reason at all”. However, Cormier also revealed that he showed the bully his place as soon as he got into wrestling.

I was bullied bad, guys used to beat me up for no reason. I think wrestling is so important for kids because then you learn to defend yourself and also it gives you a confidence.
