‘Every time he’d be willing to take a meeting…I’d keep trying to convince him’ – Daniel Cormier’s advice to Dana White on the Khabib Nurmagomedov situation
Khabib Nurmagomedov, shocked the world when he announced his retirement after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. At the post-fight interview, he revealed that he wouldn’t be able to continue without his late father by the ringside and that he had promised his mother that the Justin fight would be his last. Despite several rumors circulating about a possible Khabib comeback, Khabib himself has never really shown any form of interest in making a comeback.
However, UFC President Dana White is hellbent on bringing ‘The Eagle’ back, at least for a White. The two have a meeting scheduled in Vegas, which is due soon, where the Bossman will be determined to try his best to bring Khabib back. Added to that, the UFC Lightweight title is still Khabib’s, and White has no plans of vacating it.
Speaking about it, in the recent episode of DC & Helwani MMA Show, Daniel Cormier, revealed that White ‘is right in doing so’. He also exclaimed that he would do the same if he had been in White’s place.
‘I mean, he just dominated a very tough Justin Gaethje‘
Daniel Cormier was quoted as saying, “I mean, he just dominated a very tough Justin Gaethje. So yeah, that’s why he’s the man. That’s why he is the absolute man, and that is why Dana White continues to ask him to come back to fighting. I wouldn’t stop [if I were White]/ I’d [schedule] ten meetings [with Nurmagomedov]. Every time he’d be willing to take a meeting I would keep talking, I’d keep trying to convince him.” (via MMA Mania)
There were also rumors that Khabib might probably come back if he were to fight Georges St-Pierre; but more recently Khabib shut down those talks as well. ‘The Eagle’ has also maintained that he has no interest in fighting people whom he has already defeated, viz. Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and many others. Therefore, the chances of Khabib making a comeback seem very slim. What are your thoughts on this?
