Max Holloway announced the beginning of his era when he knocked out Jose Aldo to become the featherweight champion. Holloway won the rematch and made title defenses against Frankie Edgar and Brian Ortega before Alexander Volkanovski dethroned him.

Preluding his BMF title fight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, Hollway sat with Daniel Cormier for his DC Check-In show on YouTube. Cormier, one of the UFC’s main commentators, was not in the commentary booth when Holloway won the title. He was at a Hamilton show in San Fransico with his wife and had an interesting story to tell the Hawaiian.

I had my phone down, they were singing, and I f**king yelled. Everybody, my wife was so mad at me. I yelled in the play because when you [Max Holloway] hit him [Jose Aldo] with the boom boom and he went back, I yelled in the play because you had won.

Holloway laughed as Cormier explained the story. ‘DC’ and ‘Blessed’ have a hilarious relationship. Once, Holloway challenged Cormier for the title of ‘Daddest Man on the Planet.’ Recently, Cormier hilariously revealed on his DC and the Bad Guy show that he would’ve fought Holloway if he’d fought anybody, irrespective of weight class.

Daniel Cormier began his UFC commentary career back in 2016 at UFC Fight Night 96, headlined by John Lineker and John Dodson. Holloway won the featherweight title on June 3rd, 2017. At the event, Dominick Cruz took DC’s place as Cormier was an active fighter, unlike now. Hence, he missed the opportunity to witness Holloway’s title win.

Max Holloway’s two-fight series with Jose Aldo

Before Alexander Volkanovski became the pound-for-pound king, Max Holloway looked unbeatable at featherweight. After losing Conor McGregor, Holloway went on a streak that resulted in an interim title, an undisputed title, and two title defenses in addition to a crack at the interim lightweight title.

Max Holloway’s fights with Jose Aldo were one of his best performances. Holloway fought Aldo for the first time at UFC 212 in enemy territory in Rio de Janeiro, where Aldo is ‘The King.’ Despite being a slight underdog, Aldo wilted under Holloway’s pressure and lost via third-round TKO.

Aldo got an immediate rematch at UFC 218, but this time, it was on American soil in Detroit. Unlike the first fight, Holloway went in as a sizeable favorite. Similar to the first fight, Hollway won via third-round TKO. Aldo would fight thrice more at featherweight before going down to bantamweight.

Jose Aldo announced retirement after a loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278. Moreover, the UFC inducted him into the Hall of Fame soon after. However, he announced his comeback against Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, Holloway is gearing up to compete for the BMF title at UFC 300.
