In August, the Indianapolis Colts were not a team anybody thought would make the playoffs this year, much less win the division or be a contender for the conference number one seed. The Colts had a confused quarterback room, with an experienced Anthony Richardson and an inconsistent Daniel Jones.

After eight weeks, as October comes to an end, the Colts are 7-1 on the season. The Colts are leading the AFC South with a clear dominance; the second-ranked Jacksonville Jaguars are at least three wins away from matching the Colts. They are also the conference leader, ahead of the New England Patriots and the Denver Broncos, who hold a 6-2 record.

The exceptional start has been much due to the performances by Daniel Jones as well as a second-round pick running back, Jonathan Taylor. In eight games so far in the current season, Taylor leads the league in carries (143), rushing yards (850), and touchdowns (12). He’s had at least three games with at least three rushing touchdowns, which is more than what a few teams have achieved throughout the season.

Taylor was equally impressive in Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. He had 12 carries for 153 yards and two touchdowns, the yardage being the second highest he’s had in a single game this season.

The RB also set his longest rushing with 80 yards in a stretch. Furthermore, he caught a few passes from Daniel Jones as well, registering 21 yards and a touchdown. The impressive performance on the field was met with loud cheers and chants for the MVP title to be conferred upon Jonathan Taylor.

The team’s signal caller matched the audience’s calls and admitted that it was “spot on” to put forth Taylor’s name. Meanwhile, wideout Michael Pittman Jr. claimed that the way Taylor has been so electric has confused the NFL. The wideout added that the player’s recent numbers have prompted the organization to look beyond quarterbacks for that honor this season.

Shane Steichen has no words to describe Jonathan Taylor’s recent performances

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen had nothing but admiration for Jonathan Taylor’s latest performance, calling it a display that “validated” the chants echoing through the stadium.

It’s hard to put into words, to be honest, because when you see the way he’s running, the way the guys are blocking for him, I mean, it’s special.

Shane Steichen said, via the team’s website

Steichen added that Taylor has been able to create opportunities to score even when the circumstances are heavily lopsided against them. He also mentioned the eighty-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Taylor in the third quarter as a highlight of the win against the Titans.

It really is. And like I said, he’s running hard. He’s running physical. Even when things aren’t clean in there, he’s finding ways to get three, four, and then the 80-yard touchdown run, he hit that thing down the sidelines, and to stay in bounds, it was as impressive as it gets.

Steichen added

Under Steichen’s guidance, the Colts’ rushing attack has regained its rhythm, with Taylor at the forefront. His ability to turn broken plays into game-changing moments has been instrumental in the team’s recent surge.

Though the Colts are 7-1, their opponents have been relatively weaker compared to other high-powered offenses. In eight games, the Colts have only gone up against three playoff teams from last year. The upcoming few weeks will be the real test for Taylor, Jones, and the company. They play the Pittsburgh Steelers next game, facing a resilient and powerful Aaron Rodgers, who is looking to bounce back after a loss to the Green Bay Packers.
