2023 was a season to forget for Daniel Jones. He only played six games, winning just one for the New York Giants before suffering a long-term ACL injury.

During the offseason, the franchise underwent a winter cleanout, trading or releasing several notable faces from the last season. Besides Jones, head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are still around, but anything can happen between now and when the next season begins.

As a precaution, the Giants traded Drew Lock to the Seattle Seahawks. Yet Daboll has confirmed that if Jones manages to convince the coaching staff that he is fit, then he will remain the starting quarterback.

However, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. projected that the Giants may use their 6th overall pick in the draft to select either Jayden Daniels or JJ McCarthy. This remains a possibility, but everything depends on how quickly Jones manages to recover.

As the NFL franchises slowly resumed their voluntary training programs, Daniel Jones was at the Giants facility, and through FaceTime, he spoke with the media. One of the reporters asked him about his health.

Ahh! rehab's gone well. Umm! making good progress and coming along. I obviously spent a lot of time with the trainers here and the training staff, so I feel like things have gone well.

Social media reacts to Daniel Jones’ bizarre press conference

During a recent press conference, the Duke graduate gave an update on the status of his rehab. While this should be music to the Big Apple faithful, Jones’ interview made headlines for entirely different reasons. Users on X noticed the unusual facial expression the 26-year-old made while answering the questions.

This was awfully expressive for a press conference. For what it’s worth, perhaps he remembered the disappointment and fear of an ACL tear that no football player wants to go through. Check out how they reacted to these ‘expressions’ by the Giants QB:

On a serious note, Jones has to prove to the team and the fans that he is their franchise quarterback. If he can be efficient like in the 2022 season, in which he registered 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns to only five interceptions along with 708 yards and seven touchdowns rushing, which compelled the Giants to dish out $140 million to Jones, then perhaps he will be safe for a year or two.

As for the New York Giants hierarchy, they must draft a quarterback as an insurance policy. Daboll can gradually incorporate him into the setup and then promote him to the starting job if Jones falters.
