The New York Giants entered this 2024-25 NFL season with a lot of hope. Hope that Daniel Jones rediscovers his 2022 season form at the least. The addition of stud rookie WR Malik Nabers was expected to help him possibly do better than those numbers. But for the passionate New York fans, the first game against the Minnesota Vikings led to a lot of frustrations.
The 27-year-old quarterback came into this game expecting an easy start to his season. The Vikings’ defense is tenacious, but if he had his offense going, they could have won the game. Instead, he threw two interceptions to give the Vikings the win. Giants’ fans trolled him as he was leaving the stadium by calling out, “You suck, go home.” Another fan was heard calling him, “Danny Pennies.”
Daniel Jones‘ first interception was dumbfounding as he tried to throw sideways to Wan’Dale Robinson. Except he did not notice Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel streaking in despite being in the path of his vision. It was as if Brian Flores‘ defense knew what Jones was about to do and snatched the full 6-points advantage from it.
The second one was even more baffling as he tried to throw to Darius Slayton in the red zone. Except, two defenders were between the ball and Slayton.
Fans burn Daniel Jones’ jersey after throwing away winnable game
The Minnesota Vikings had journeyman quarterback Sam Darnold starting. Any team worth its weight would cherish the chance to facing them. Such awful performances can break a season considering the Vikings were potentially one of the easiest games on their schedule. Next week’s Washington Commanders know they can get a boost to their season by winning against this team. Fans, knowing this, took to burning his jersey outside of the MetLife Stadium.
New York Giants fans possibly know this and are frustrated that they might witness one of the worst seasons in their franchise’s history. It is surely worrying that, in the situation where the Commanders and Carolina Panthers find their form, the Giants could wind up with an atrocious 0-17 record.
That will not only throw Daniel Jones out of a job in the NFL, but he will also walk out of the gates alongside his head coach and front office staff. The same staff that decided to keep him as their starting quarterback, despite having options to draft his replacement.
