When Caitlin Clark joined the Indiana Fever, Indianapolis sports fans hoped that she, along with other young playmakers, Tyrese Haliburton and Anthony Richardson, would bring glory to the city. This year, Daniel Jones seemingly entered the fray.

If one were to tell football fans back in 2024 that the Duke alum would steer a team to 8 victories, and produce his best football, they would call out the said fortune-teller for being too imaginative.

But much to the surprise of everyone associated with football, that did happen, and Jones even found himself in MVP conversations in the earlier part of this campaign.

Up until their Week 11 bye, the Colts were one of the best teams in the league. Then, the QB suffered injuries, and his team lost its next two. Then they entered their Week 14 clash against the Jacksonville Jaguars, hoping they could start another winning streak.

After throwing an interception on his first throw, Jonathan Taylor helped him make amends in their next drive. With time still left in the 1st quarter, Daniel Jones was trying to get his team to keep up with their opponents.

With 50 seconds left, the 28-year-old dropped back to try and sling it out to his receivers. He did manage to get the ball to WR Alec Pierce. Then cameras spotted Jones clutching his right leg while lying on the ground.

Replays revealed that the QB awkwardly planted his right leg, which injured his Achilles. Later, reports confirmed that the Charlotte, North Carolina, native did indeed rupture his Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery.

Fans lose it as Daniel Jones joins Indy playmakers with season-ending injury

After their third loss, it dawned upon sports fans that Daniel Jones’ season was over. He joins the other two Indianapolis playmakers, Caitlin Clark and Tyrese Haliburton, who also saw their seasons end on the injury list.

Fans wondered if the city was cursed, as the Colts were gearing up for a stellar run in the playoffs, whereas the Indiana Fever reached the WNBA semifinals.

Then the Indiana Pacers’ shot at lifting the city’s first NBA championship was robbed with Haliburton’s Achilles tear in game 7 of this past NBA Finals.

Sports fans took to social media to talk about how the city’s fan base has had it tough this year, and with Daniel Jones’ injury, will now have to wait for one more year. Check out examples of those reactions below:

If Daniel Jones undergoes surgery immediately, he will still need a long and fast recovery if he is to return to start next season. For the Colts, their situation becomes tricky, as they only have one healthy QB in their building.

Colts’ season in jeopardy with just 1 QB at hand

When the Indianapolis Colts started their 2025 season, they had options to choose from as head coach Shane Steichen had three QBs to choose from. Now, after Daniel Jones‘ season-ending injury, he is down to just one.

That is because Jones is going to be seated beside the man he took the starting QB job from, Anthony Richardson, on injured reserve. The latter was supposed to back up and learn from his veteran teammate.

But that has not happened, as he was placed on IR on October 13th after fracturing the orbital bone in his eye during warmup. That leaves the franchise with rookie 6th round pick Riley Leonard.

He did lead the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to last year’s CFP National Championship. Therefore, if anything, Steichen would hope he could do something right, at least until Jones or Richardson returns.
