Daniel Jones’ first snaps after returning from injury went horribly when the New York Giants played their second preseason Saturday game against the Houston Texans. He threw two interceptions—one of them a pick-six.

On the first drive of the day, the Texans pushed the hosts back behind their 10-yard line for 2nd and 8. Jones took the snap and did his best Dan Orlovsky impression by stepping back inside the red zone.

He looked for an open Giant, but Texans rookie edge rusher Solomon Byrd smashed into him, which forced the 27-year-old to hastily release the ball in fear of a safety. Ironically, the outcome was worse.

Jones threw the ball straight to on-rushing Texans safety Jalen Pitre, who scored an easy pick-six. With a field goal, the Texans took the lead and increased it further.

Football fans on social media make fun of Daniel Jones’ awful game against the Texans

Tom Brady must be a soothsayer at this point. On Friday, he had called out Daniel Jones for his perpetual habit of throwing picks. Only a day later he throws one on the Giants’ first drive.

Naturally, football fans hounded the Giants QB on social media.

Another interception by Daniel Jones made the day worse for Giants

That wasn’t the end of Jones’ misery. Head coach Brian Daboll who believes his #1 quarterback can turn things around in 2024 made things worse and the game was still in the first quarter.

With close to the 2-minute warning mark on 1st and 10 near the Texans’ box, Jones took the snap and looked for Jalin Hyatt. However, Texans’ cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. shadowed Hyatt and intercepted the pass.

Amidst all the negativity, Jones’ quick thinking made it a one-point game. On 2nd and goal around the 10-minute mark in the second quarter, Jones handed the ball off to running back Devin Singletary for the Giants’ only touchdown of the game. Singletary joined the blue side of New York from the Texans in the offseason after Saquon Barkley left.

Jones’ day ended with 11 completions from 18 for 138 passing yards, 1 carry for 12 yards, and 2 interceptions (one pick-six). Daboll replaced him with Tommy DeVito, who completed 10 from 19 for 75 yards as the game ended 28-10, handing the Giants their first pre-season loss of 2024.
