It wasn’t too long ago when the New York Giants benched the franchise quarterback Daniel Jones, after two years of signing a lucrative deal with him. It was later revealed that the Giants’ front office took the decision without taking the players, head coach Brian Daboll or General Manager Joe Schoen, in confidence.
According to Adam Schfter of ESPN, Jones is expected to pass through waivers on Monday which would allow him to find a new team with one-year contract. After the team demoted him to quarterback No. 4 on the depth chart, he was granted a release from the team and anticipated to have “multiple options but likely will prefer to finish this season on a playoff-contending team.”
Sources also confirmed that multiple teams across the league have reached out to the Giants, inquiring about Jones’ interest, however no official negotiations or conversations have begun. This could mean it may take the quarterback a considerable amount of time to find a playoff contender team, making it unlikely for that to happen this season.

The official news of parting ways with Jones was announced on Friday, despite players referring to him as “the best quarterback.” Owner John Mara defined the decision as “mutually agreed” to the best interest of both the parties.
Jones’ preferences for his next team are quite specific, as he does not wish to land a team in need of a quarterback, instead he wants to use a play for a playoff contender. The quarterback wants to avoid the pressure of taking the entire responsibility of the entire team upon his shoulder, and by joining a strong team as a backup would allow him to settle in a new situation.
Saquon Barkley empathizes with Daniel Jones after his departure from Giants
After benching Jones due to 2-8 record, events escalated pretty quickly in New York. He was initially moved to the No. 3, only to further demote to No. 4 on the depth chart. Saquon Barkley, who experienced his own disastrous end with Giants, empathized with Jones.
Barkley wished a fresh start for Jones just like he found in the Philadelphia Eagles after joining them this offseason. The Eagles currently holding 8-2 record with their new running back playing a significant role in their success.
