Daniel Ricciardo the McLaren Formula One driver has recently shown his displeasure against the rumors of historical venues getting removed from race calendars in the upcoming years of the sport.

In recent times Formula One has garnered a lot of interest from America and the middle eastern countries and this has made the job at the F1 headquarters way more difficult than it used to be some time ago.

Adding new venues means the removal of some venues that have been on the F1 calendar since the very beginning and Daniel Ricciardo feels the historical venues should not be the ones to pay the price as according to him they are at the heart of the premier class of racing.

The upcoming new venues have got huge pockets and can pretty much spend any amount that Formula One may ask of them, the same is not the case when it comes to the older venues and this has made the dilemma even worse for people making the decisions regarding F1 calendars.

As per reports, a traditional venue like Monaco is at risk of getting scrapped from future F1 calendars. Monaco has been ever-present since 1950 when the first Formula One season took place.

As per the Concorde Agreement, the maximum number of races that can take place in a single season is set at 24 and everyone is expected to abide by the rules no matter what.

Given the introduction of new venues every season, it has become very difficult to keep all the historical track on the F1 calendars and places like Spa-Francorchamps and Monaco are expected to take the hit in the coming years.

However, Ricciardo hopes that it will not come to that and has indicated that some circuits are the “core” of the sport and should not disappear.

“Monaco is such a circuit. It’s a special weekend.”

As an F1 driver, it’s unique to go there and experience all the emotions that go with competing in Monaco. I would wish for the next generation to also be able to experience that.”

Daniel wants the classical venues to stay as long as possible and it will be interesting to see if his plea would be heard at F1 headquarters and whether certain venues would be able to make it to next season’s F1 calendar.
