Former Italian tennis player Daniele Bracciali claims that he expected former World No.1 Novak Djokovic to play at his desired level after knee surgery. The Serbian sustained a meniscus injury at Roland Garros, withdrawing from his quarterfinal against Casper Ruud.
Djokovic made a last-minute decision to participate in the Wimbledon men’s singles draw. However, his decision is proving correct as he seems to be back playing the best tennis of his career.
You can see his desire to play, to stay there and fight, even if he knows that the young players behind him are really raring to go. He's someone who has broken all the records possible and imaginable, it was to be expected that after the surgery he would return to the court with excellent results. Among other things, he won by scritch now: luck has been added that will allow him to recover even better.Daniele Bracciali said (H/T: Mowmag)
As much as Djokovic is attracting headlines with his game, the second seed is also catching the spotlight based on his comments about the Wimbledon crowd. After his match against Holger Rune, the Belgrade native accused the crowd of disrespecting him.
However, many interviewers, correspondents, and Rune himself claimed that the chants were for him rather than boos for Djokovic. Regardless of which story one believes, the Serbian is back playing the tennis everyone expects, and he should not be taken lightly for the remainder of the tournament.
Novak Djokovic reaches Wimbledon semi-final after Alex de Minaur’s withdrawal
Novak Djokovic has advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals as his scheduled opponent, Alex de Minaur, withdrew due to a hip injury. The match was set for Wednesday on Centre Court.
The 25-year-old Australian had beaten Arthur Fils to reach his first Wimbledon quarter-final but felt discomfort in his hip in the final points of the match. The Australian needs three to six weeks to recover. De Minaur’s withdrawal aids Djokovic’s quest for an eighth Wimbledon title.
The 37-year-old now matches Roger Federer with 13 Wimbledon semi-final appearances. He has been in great form despite recent knee surgery. Djokovic easily defeated Holger Rune in the previous round. With De Minaur’s withdrawal, Wimbledon organizers replaced the match. British players Joe Salisbury and Heather Watson faced Jan Zielinski and Hsieh Su-wei in a mixed doubles match on Centre Court.
