Danielle Collins is an animal lover; so much so that she brought her dog, ‘Mr. Quincy’ also known as Mr. Q to not only at the Charleston Open but to the court during her post-match interview. Unfortunately for Collins, Mr. Quincy didn’t see her overcome Jelena Ostapenko 7-5, 6-3 in the fourth round, for he was napping most of the time.

Mr. Q was with Collins in Miami as well where the American ace failed to defend her title after defeat to eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round. Now Collins is moving closer to defending her title at the Charleston Open.

And Mr.Q’s presence, as always, is having a positive impact on the 31-year-old. When Collins was told that Mr. Q was napping during her match versus Ostapenko, she said it was just a normal day for him.

Yeah, you know for Quincy, it’s another day, another dollar. So, you know, it’s another day at work and I think he has a ton of fun doing this and being a part of the pack on the road and…Yeah, we are having fun, he got a new bowtie yesterday. And it looks he is ready to go back to the box. He used to be on the side of the court when I am practicing. But yeah, what a treat to have him here.

Mr. Q has now a brother. It’s Mr. Crash, the dog Collins adopted after rescuing him from a car accident during the Miami Open.

Danielle Collins is embracing the granola-girl lifestyle

Danielle Collins announced last year at the Australian Open that she would be hanging up her racket at the end of the season in order to start a family. Endometriosis and other health issues were the reasons. But Collins took a U-turn and decided to play this season.

She is now in the “bonus” phase of her career and despite being on the tour for most of the time, she is building a life that she always loved. Collins loves spending her time in her garden, and at the chicken farm, and ‘Danimal’ is pretty sure that soon, there will more animals for her to raise.

Even as a child, I wanted to have a little farm with animals. I’m a huge animal lover. This is just the start with the chickens. Once you get chickens, you end up taking on other forms of livestock pretty quickly. I’ve embraced this crunchy, granola-girl lifestyle! I feel very Mother Earth these days.

At the Charleston Open, the World No.22 will lock horns with compatriot Jessica Pegula next. Pegula, who lost the Miami Open final to Aryna Sabalenka, knocked out Ajla Tomljanovic to inch closer to her fourth final of the season.

Collins has faced the World No.4 five times on the tour, losing all the matches. This quarterfinal clash will be Collins’ first match against the 2024 US Open finalist since the 2023 Roland Garros first round.

Danielle Collins calls Iga Swiatek her friend

During the Charleston Open, several players were asked to reveal who they think are ideal players when it comes to speed, forehand, and backhand. When Danielle Collins was asked about the speed, her answer was Iga Swiatek. She called the 23-year-old her “friend“.

Last year during the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics, Collins had called Swiatek “insincere during the customary handshake. Then during the 2025 United Cup, when USA faced Poland in the final, Collins was seen rolling her eyes during the handshake. Collins then used the picture of her handshake for her Instagram profile picture and also shared a few stories about the same.
