Danielle Collins, the tennis star known for her fiery on-court persona, just celebrated her 32nd birthday. And truly, her gratitude post wasn’t one’s standard PR-approved, “so blessed” fluff. She kept it 100% real, crediting the two pillars of her survival: her therapist and the gays.

The “Danimal” rang in 32 recently, and naturally, the internet flooded her with love. However, one particular interaction stood out. The Gay Tennis Podcast, hosted by Tony Hagen, posted a throwback clip on Instagram to celebrate the occasion. Collins, never one to miss a beat, reposted the story with a caption that belongs in the Hall of Fame of Birthday Posts. She stated on her Instagram story:

I’d like to thank my therapist and all the gay men for helping me getting to 32.

It’s a hilarious, self-aware acknowledgment of her fanbase. The LGBTQ+ community has long stanned Collins for her unapologetic intensity, and a nod to the mental health work it takes to stay at the top of the game.

Collins has been pretty much in the headlines recently thanks to her mentions in the Nothing Major Podcast. Fellow American pros have been discussing the prospect of Collins finding a boyfriend, which is itself a story.

The rollercoaster year behind Danielle Collins

If one’s been following Danielle Collins‘ trajectory lately, one would know she’s been through the wringer. Back in early 2024, after a tough loss to Iga Swiatek at the Australian Open, Collins dropped a bombshell when she announced her retirement.

But then, the plot twisted. In October, she pulled a reverse card, announcing her return to the tour in 2025.

It was a massive relief for fans who weren’t ready to say goodbye to her ferocious gameplay, but it also highlights just how much mental and physical fortitude she needs to keep going. This could be the reason behind her shootout for the therapists.

What’s next for Danielle Collins?

While she’s back on the tour, things are looking a little different for the start of the 2026 season. Danielle Collins is notably absent from the entry list for the 2026 Australian Open.

Collins made a lot of headlines in Melbourne this year, especially in the match against Destanee Aiava. She called out the Australian crowd for showing ‘disrespect’ to her, which annoyed the fans. However, it was endorsed by Novak Djokovic.

Considering she was a finalist there in 2022, her absence will definitely be felt in Melbourne. She’s currently sitting at No. 64 in the rankings. Her 2025 run had its ups and downs, including a strong Miami Open run until a loss to Aryna Sabalenka and a quarterfinal exit at Charleston against Jessica Pegula.
