Danielle Collins reveals the real reason behind her ‘bittersweet’ retirement postponement
Danielle Collins opened up about her decision to postpone her retirement after fertility concerns stopped her from fulfilling her dreams.
Danielle Collins has opened up about her decision to postpone her retirement after fertility concerns impeded her dreams of starting a family. The American revealed that she had mixed emotions about the ordeal. She has not played a match since losing to Olivia Gadecki in Guadalajara, Mexico in September.
At the beginning of the 2024 season, Collins announced that she would be hanging her racket at the end of the year to fulfill her dreams of starting a family. The 31-year-old flourished on the court, winning the Miami Open and Charleston Open.
The results saw her climb into the Top 10 of the WTA rankings. However, after failing to qualify for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, it looked set that Collins’ career was coming to an end. She surprisingly announced last month that she will be back on the WTA Tour in 2025.
The 30-year-old cited that she was dealing with endometriosis and rheumatoid arthritis which will limit her from starting a family. In a recent interview, Collins opened up about her ordeal and how her appointment with her doctors changed her decision.

Collins was supposed to be given a farewell ceremony at the US Open in August but the American shockingly lost in the first round. However, while the tournament organizers were preparing for the ceremony Collins left the court in a hurry and didn’t accept any flowers.
Danielle Collins to represent Team USA at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals
Danielle Collins represented the US at the Paris Olympics and reached the quarterfinals before an abdominal injury forced her to retire against Iga Swiatek. She has not been in her best form since then and skipped the Asian swing.
However, the World No. 10 will be back on the court to represent Team USA at the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals. With the absence of Coco Gauff and Emma Navarro, Collins will be the highest-ranked player on the American team.
Collins will be joined by Ashlyn Krueger, Peyton Stearns, Taylor Townsend, and Caroline Dolehide. The team will be captained by Lindsay Davenport. Team USA will take on Slovakia and the winner will face Australia, who received a bye in the quarterfinals.
The tie will get underway on November 14 in Malaga. The US has won the Billie Jean King Cup for a record 19 times but last won it in 2017. Collins will also represent her country at the 2025 United Cup. She will be joined by Gauff, Desirae Krawczyk, Taylor Fritz, Denis Kudla, and Robert Galloway. The event will kick off on December 27 and go on till January 5.
