Danielle Collins announced after losing to Iga Swiatek in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open that she would end her career at the end of this season. But she reversed her decision after nine months.
Collins took to Instagram to reveal the reason behind prolonging her career. She had stated that she wanted to start a family after retirement, but as she is still dealing with health issues, she deemed it best for herself to play in 2025.
Collins has been dealing with endometriosis and fertility problems and the treatment will take a lot of time. She has been seeing specialists to understand how she can achieve her ultimate dream, which is ‘starting a family’.

Here’s how Danielle Collins performed this season
On Friday, Danielle Collins joined the United States mixed doubles team list for the season-opening United Cup tournament in Perth and Sydney. This means she will play in the 2025 Australian Open, the Grand Slam where she gave her best performance of her career by reaching the final in 2022, losing to now-retired Ash Barty.
After announcing her decision to retire, Collins played the best tennis of her career. In March, she won the WTA 1000 Miami Open, followed by her win at the Charleston Open. She was excited to give her best at the Paris Olympics, but she suffered from heat stroke and abdominal strain and lost in the quarterfinals.
Since then, Collins has played just three tournaments, including the US Open. At Flushing Meadows, she lost to compatriot Caroline Dolehide in three straights in the first round. The World No. 9 is 39/ 15 on the season with the two aforementioned titles. Overall, the 30-year-old has clinched four titles on the WTA Tour.
