Just like in 2023, Daniil Medvedev ended his Paris Masters campaign after losing the first match he played. On Wednesday (October 30), Medvedev was up against Alexei Popyrin inside the Centre Court and lost with a scoreline of 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(7-4).

After the match, Medvedev was asked about his opinions about the courts in Bercy. Although the Paris Masters had slow courts in previous years, this year the conditions are different. Medvedev once complained about playing on slow courts at Indian Wells, and it became a topic of discussion. This time, however, he said certain players have advantages on different courts but playing on either slower or faster courts has been a disadvantage for him.

Yeah, maybe, when I say it a bit too fast when it’s the fastest on tour, you can feel it, everyone can feel it, so we’re a bit surprised. We need time to adapt to it. I have a bigger problem on tour. You know, some players get advantaged by it; some players are disadvantaged. It’s okay. It can happen. But it’s a big disadvantage for me.

Medvedev won the Paris Masters in 2020 by beating Alexander Zverev in straight sets. Prior to the 2024 Paris Masters, Medvedev lost to eventual winner Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters.

Daniil Medvedev reveals if he thinks Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard can win Grand Slam title

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard walked onto Paris Masters courts on the back of a successful campaign at the Swiss Indoors. The 21-year-old upset sixth seed Ben Shelton in straight sets to win his career’s second ATP title.

Carlos Alcaraz, who went past Nicolas Jarry in his opening round, called Perricard the best server on tour. When Daniil Medvedev was asked to comment on it, he too agreed with Alcaraz and said the young Frenchman has the ability to be a top-10 player.

Well, you can reach the top 10. It’s not far. We never know, but he could. As for a Grand Slam, it won’t be easy for him. Even in Basel, he had four deciders, so it’s a five-setter in a Grand Slam. He could win.

Perricard knocked out Frances Tiafoe in the first round of the Paris Masters in three sets but fell to Karen Khachanov in the second round. Apart from the Swiss Indoors, Perricard also won the Lyon Open in May this year with a three-set win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry
