‘Rafael Nadal didn’t have any contact with Medvedev, he is fine and ready to play’: Uncle Toni
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal came into the Monte Carlo Masters on the back of just one tournament this year, the Australian Open. Since then Nadal has been trying to get back to full fitness in time for the clay court season. Over the years we have seen the Big three prioritize tournaments, surfaces according to their strengths. Nadal has chosen clay, Roger Federer has chosen grass, and Novak Djokovic has leaned towards hard courts.
Here on the clay courts of Monte-Carlo, Nadal has won an unprecedented 11 times, a modern day record. Nadal, who had a bye in the first round, faced Argentinian Qualifier Federico Delbonis in the second round. Nadal started the tournament playing the perfect match. He beat Delbonis in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 in just 81 mins. With this win, Nadal improved his record at Monte Carlo to 72-5(win-loss).
Covid scare for Rafael Nadal and his team
Unfortunately for all tennis lovers and fans of Daniil Medvedev, he got infected with Covid ,and is now out of the tournament and in isolation. But the scarier bit was that Medvedev had been in close proximity to Nadal the day before, in fact the two had been talking to each other albeit for a small amount of time. This news sent shockwaves around the tennis world, and Nadal and his team were all tested for Covid.
Thankfully all of them returned negative results, and now Nadal is ready to play on. Uncle Toni confirmed the news, he said “ Rafa is doing very well, he is ready to play. He should not have any problem. He barely had contact with Daniil Medvedev and everything happened outdoor.” Rafael Nadal will next come up against Grigor Dimitrov in the round of sixteen match.
