Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic are suffering from a slump in form. At the Italian Open (which Djokovic skipped), Medvedev was defeated by Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round.
Before Rome, Medvedev lost to Alex de Minaur and eventual champion Casper Ruud in the Monte Carlo Masters fourth round and the Madrid Open quarterfinals, respectively. But the Serb’s story was different. He lost the opening rounds in both Monte Carlo and Madrid.
Medvedev is searching for his first title since winning the 2023 Italian Open, while Nole has not yet captured a trophy since the Paris Olympics last year. Amidst the Italian Open, Medvedev’s father Sergey Medvedev credited the 24-time Grand Slam champion for making the Russian ace a better player.
I used to cheer for [Roger] Federer. I liked his way of playing and his tennis logic. Later, I started to like Djokovic. Novak is linked to Daniil’s progress. He helped him. I personally thanked him for that. After training with Novak, Daniil made enormous progress.
Sergey Medvedev told Mr.Tennis | Dychkovsky’s YouTube Channel (H/T: We Love Tennis)
Djokovic has met Medvedev 15 times on the tour and leads the head-to-head record 10-5. They haven’t yet faced each other since the 2023 US Open final where Djokovic took home his 24th Major and since then, he has reached only one Grand Slam final (at the 2024 Wimbledon which he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets).
Justine Henin reacts after Novak Djokovic decides to end his partnership with Andy Murray
On May 13, Novak Djokovic took to social media to announce that he no longer will be working with Andy Murray. Former WTA World No.1 Justine Henin has made her feelings known on the split.

What is certain is that Djokovic knew that Andy Murray would be useful, but it was also to bring something fresh, a certain power, thinking: ‘With Andy Murray, I have to find this motivation, offer him my motivation.’ He’s probably thinking about that, this motivation, and that’s why he made this decision now.
Justine Henin told TNT Sports
Murray joined Nole’s team last year in November after the Scot called time on his career at the Paris Olympics. The Australian Open was their first tournament. Djokovic reached the semifinal but was forced to retire mid-match against Alexander Zverev because of an injury.
After two early exits, Djokovic, under Murray, played his first final- since the 2024 Shanghai Masters- at the Miami Open but failed to overcome Jakub Mensik. The Serbian veteran then registered his second three consecutive defeats this season when he lost his opening-round matches in Monte Carlo and Madrid.
Novak Djokovic will play at the Geneva Open next
After withdrawing from the Italian Open, reports emerged that Djokovic received a wild card for the Geneva Open. He had participated in the ATP 250 tournament last year and had reached the semifinals but lost to Tomas Machac.

Djokovic wants to get some match practice on the red dirt before starting his bid for his historic 25th Grand Slam title at the French Open, where last year, he was forced to withdraw from the quarterfinals against three-time Grand Slam finalist Casper Ruud due to an injury. Last year on clay, Djokovic lifted only one title: the gold medal at the Paris Olympics by beating Carlos Alcaraz.
Because of his poor performance, Djokovic dropped to the sixth position on the rankings table after Jack Draper‘s Madrid Open campaign. Djokovic had occupied the fifth position but after Draper reached the final (lost to Ruud), he toppled Djokovic and reached a career-high ranking of No.5. If Djokovic wins another title, he will become the third man after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer to win 100 or more trophies.
