Daniil Medvedev has shared some firy takes on the dominance of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The duo is currently the top two-ranked players in the world and has won the last seven Grand Slam titles.

However, Medvedev, who has also been a World No.1 before, believes that Sinner and Alcaraz aren’t invincible like the media says. The Russian believes that the duo, like anyone else, has shown weaknesses and can lose matches on any given day. Medvedev said in his interview on the ATP Tour:

It’s funny, many people keep asking me about Jannik and Carlos, but by this time of the year, I still haven’t faced them in the Grand Slams due to my poor performance. That’s a problem for me, I want to know where they stand, I need to face them in the fourth round or quarterfinals. I don’t really think it’s difficult for me because it never was, although I managed to win a final against Novak once. I know they are strong players, but at the same time, they can also lose at times.

Medvedev had the better of Sinner in the early part of their rivalry. However, things have taken a drastic turn since the 2024 Australian Open final. The Russian won only once against the World No.1 in their entire 2024 meetings, which came at Wimbledon.

Against Alcaraz, Medvedev’s only recognizable win came in the 2023 US Open semifinals. The Russian has been second best to this duo for the last 12 months.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner return at Six Kings Slam

The 2025 Six Kings Slam will return to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in mid-October, with a lineup featuring the top six players in the world. Jannik Sinner, last year’s champion, will defend his title, while Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic also return from the 2024 edition. Joining them are three newcomers to the event: Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Jack Draper.

This year’s tournament will be staged at the ANB Arena, shortly after the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The exhibition event debuted in 2024, drawing major stars, including Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The format brings together six elite players for high-profile matches without ranking points at stake.

In 2024, Sinner claimed the title and earned a record $6 million prize, the largest payout ever for a single tennis event. Each participant was guaranteed at least $1.5 million, making it one of the most lucrative exhibitions in the sport.

Sinner’s prize surpassed the previous record held by Djokovic, who won $4.8 million for going undefeated at the 2022 ATP Finals. With the same top-tier talent set to compete in 2025, the event is expected to draw global attention once again.

Carlos Alcaraz makes adjustment to his schedule after US Open

Carlos Alcaraz has been named in Spain’s Davis Cup squad for their qualifier against Denmark. Captain David Ferrer confirmed his inclusion in the five-man team, which also features Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Pedro Martinez, and Marcel Granollers. The tie will be played on clay at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella, just six days after the US Open final.

This will be Spain’s first Davis Cup match on clay since 2022, when they faced Romania. That tie marked Alcaraz’s debut in the competition, where he defeated Marius Copil in straight sets. Spain won 3-1 to advance to the main stage of the tournament.

In 2022, Spain topped Group B despite Alcaraz losing to Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime but fell to Croatia in the quarterfinals. The following year, they failed to progress past the group stage. Last season, Spain reached the quarterfinals again but were eliminated by the Netherlands.

Before the Davis Cup, Alcaraz will compete in the Cincinnati Open as part of his US Open preparations. The American tournament will also mark his first appearance since the Wimbledon final, a loss he says he has put behind him.
