Daniil Medvedev to return at the Madrid Masters after recovering from COVID-19

Russian sensation Daniil Medvedev has had a terrific run since November 2020. We saw him lift the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals in successively to end the year on a high note. He continued his form in 2021 as he reached the Australian Open finals, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the finals to end a 20 match unbeaten streak. He then went on to win the Open 13 event in Marseille.

He also achieved a career high ranking of No.2 in March and also had a good outing in Miami where he reached the quarter-finals. He became the first player since July 18, 2005 outside the Big Four- Rafael Nadal, Roger FedererNovak Djokovic and Andy Murray to be ranked inside the top two.

He was all set to begin his Clay season in Monte Carlo where he was seeded second, but unfortunately, he tested positive for COVID-19 during the tournament.

Daniil Medvedev has recovered from COVID and is set to return in Madrid

Daniil Medvedev tested positive for COVID-19 on 13th April, just before his opening match at Monte Carlo. He got 2 weeks to recover and according to his agent Loic Martin, he is feeling much better and he is already training at a high intensity.

His agent also informs that the Russian will be back on tour in Madrid next week. The Madrid Masters will begin from May 2 and will be headlined by Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

As his preference, Medvedev doesn’t prefer Clay much. He is yet to get past the opening round of the French Open and will want to break the curse this year.
