World No.1 Iga Swiatek criticized the loud crowd at Roland Garros during her intense second-round match against Naomi Osaka. Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who received a walkover against Miomir Kecmanovic in the second round, agreed with the Pole’s views.
Swiatek, who will face Marie Bouzkova in the third round, was on the verge of losing to Osaka as it was unlike the matches she played against most of the players with her securing an easy two-set win.

She had to dig deep and beat the Japanese 7-6(7-1), 1-6, 7-5 amidst screams of the crowd inside the Philippe-Chatrier court. After the match, she earnestly begged the crowd to not shout during the rally, as it distracts the players who are under immense pressure.
This is serious for us, we’re fighting our whole lives to be better and better, and sometimes it’s just hard to accept that.Iga Swiatek said at the press conference
Medvedev voiced his support and said that though he did not watch Swiatek’s interview, he enjoyed her match. Then he asserted that players lose their focus due to interruptions, and it may result in double faults and other errors.
If you ask me, I like it quiet. I like it quiet. Again, even when the crowd goes crazy, the other players are ready to serve, quiet, and let's serve, let's play. There is no in-between.Daniil Medvedev said at the press conference
Medvedev also feels that if players keep playing in loud environments, then they’ll get used to it and not complain about it. However, he advocates for a quiet environment. He observed that crowds in different tournaments are usually quiet but the Roland Garros crowd disturbs the players and as it’s a Grand Slam event, players have to deal with more stress.
Daniil Medvedev says playing in Australian Open is tough
According to Daniil Medvedev, fans create a quiet atmosphere at the US Open and the Wimbledon Championship, but like the French Open, playing in the Australian Open sometimes becomes difficult for the players especially if a match is against a local player.

Australia can be tough. I played Thanasi [Kokkinakis] once there on the small court. It was, whew, brutal.Daniil Medvedev said
The 28-year-old, who is searching for his second Grand Slam title, will next play Argentine Mariano Navone or Czech Tomas Machac in the third round. He is 9-7 at Roland Garros and has an 8-3 record on clay this year. The World No.5 also hasn’t won a title this season.
