Other than Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, the upcoming NFL Draft did not have many top-tier quarterback prospects until Dante Moore was rumored to be thinking about leaving college.
Had the Ohio native decided to declare for the draft, all odds pointed at him potentially going No. 2 overall. There, the New York Jets would be waiting with open arms as they desperately need a signal caller.
However, Stephen A. Smith threw caution to the wind after he suggested that the Oregon star rethink his decision and stay back in school, as there was nothing worse than being drafted by the Jets.
The ESPN analyst ended up getting into a war of words with WR Garrett Wilson, but the message seems to have reached the intended target. While speaking with Christine Williamson on SportsCenter, Moore said this:
Of course, I’ll be coming back to Oregon for one more year.

He added that his goal is to win the CFP National Championship after coming up short in their quest this year against Mendoza and his Indiana Hoosiers football program in the Peach Bowl.
Fans roast Jets after Dante Moore avoids getting drafted
Dante Moore might have the CFP National Championship in his sights with a return to Oregon. However, NFL fans saw the fine print in his words, which was that he was avoiding being drafted by the New York Jets.
Fans felt it seemed the 20-year-old paid attention to Stephen A. Smith’s warning, as being drafted by the Jets would place the QB in a bit of a pickle. Check out examples of those reactions below.

People are willing to sacrifice millions not to get drafted by the Jets. If that doesnt tell you enough about the state of the franchise

Even if the New York Jets manage to sign a decent QB next season, chances are that they will continue to struggle through this rebuild. If that were to happen, Dante Moore could again fall into a situation where he could be drafted by this team.
However, if the Jets struggle as badly as they did this year, and going by the talent that will be available in the 2027 Draft, Dante Moore could possibly dodge a bullet.
Dylan Raiola has to wait to play after Dante Moore chooses to return
When Dante Moore was thinking of declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft, Oregon was left with a few options, but no real star to replace a QB who was about to leave for the pros.

They had managed to have enough conversations with Dylan Raiola after he entered the transfer portal. The Nebraska quarterback is best known for imitating a certain Patrick Mahomes, and he also happens to have signed an NIL deal with the Chiefs superstar.
A few days ago, Raiola committed to the Oregon Ducks, which means he was in line to play whenever he recovered from the broken fibula he suffered this past college football season.
Breaking: Dylan Raiola announced his commitment to Oregon. If Dante Moore returns, he’d back him up in 2026 and take over as the starter in 2027, according to @PeteThamel. pic.twitter.com/w9cI4r1XCS

Now, that hope is dashed, as the former 2024 No. 1 overall recruit will have to wait until either Dante Moore finishes his time with the Ducks or an unfortunate injury happens.
