Sabalenka will be kick-starting her campaign in Berlin against Kasatkina on June 18. It will be the Belarusian’s first match since her quarterfinal exit from the Roland Garros after she lost to 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva

Sabalenka has met Kasatkina eight times, winning six of those matches. The only two times the 27-year-old prevailed over Sabalenka were in the 2019 Beijing Open and the 2022 San Jose Open. Kasatkina has not yet won a title this season and at Roland Garros, she suffered a second-round exit by losing to Peyton Stearns in straight sets.

Aryna Sabalenka won’t play in the Paris Olympics

After participating in the Berlin Open, Aryna Sabalenka will shift her focus to the Wimbledon Championships, where she is a two-time semi-finalist, having reached the last four in 2021 and 2023.

However, after the Grand Slam event at SW19, the Olympic Games will start and Sabalenka won’t be landing in Paris again to participate in the prestigious event. The 26-year-old blamed the scheduling of WTA matches that forced her to skip the Olympics. Sabalenka said she wants to rest and recover to prepare for the hard-court season.

Especially with all the struggles I’ve been struggling with in the last months, I feel I have to take care of my health. It’s too much for the scheduling and I made the decision to take care of my health. I prefer to have a little rest to make sure, physically and health-wise, I’m ready for the hard courts.
Aryna Sabalenka told reporters ahead of her Berlin Open match

Sabalenka is searching for her second title of the season, having won the Australian Open in January by beating China’s Qinwen Zheng in the final and holds a 29/ 8 win-loss record. Since that Australian Open win, Sabalenka made it to two finals in the clay season, in Madrid and Rome, losing both to World No.1 Iga Swiatek
