The Cleveland Cavaliers matchup against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night went right down to the wire. The Cavs who sit in 1st place in the Eastern Conference rankings faced a huge upset against the Rockets away from home. However, it was Cavs’ star Darius Garland who has been making the headlines for all the unwanted reasons lately.

This season, the Cleveland Cavaliers have had almost everything go their way. That looked for a while like it would continue at Toyota Center on Wednesday night. With the Cavaliers trailing the Houston Rockets 109-107 in the final seconds, Garland was given three free-throw tries after Tari Eason fouled him on a three-point try.

Following a review, officials determined that Eason’s close-out was indeed “reckless” and changed the personal foul to a flagrant foul 1, which would give the Cavaliers the ball and give Garland three chances to make a free throw. Garland missed his first two free-throw tries despite starting the game with a career-high free throw percentage of 90.1%.

He cut the Rockets’ advantage to 109-108 with his third free throw. In addition, Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell also wasted a chance to win the game at the buzzer, leading to a close-out loss against the Rockets. This loss did not go down well with the fans, especially Garland’s free throw misses. They made sure to troll the Cavs star on social media.

Given Darius Garland‘s forgettable night at the Toyota Center, fans pounced on the All-Star for his clutch meltdown. Considering the form of the Cavs that are in this 2024-25 NBA season, this was a really avoidable collapse on the point guard’s part.
