The Western Conference Final between the Edmonton Oilers and the Dallas Stars produced another major moment. In Game 2, Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse would slash Roope Hintz, leaving the Stars’ man injured. This incident has left NHL fans in splits.

Tensions have been high between these two teams in this series. Things got heated at the end of Game 1 a few days ago. A late scrum broke out between the two sets of players, resulting in two-minute minor penalties for 6 players.

Following the loss in Game 1, the Oilers bounced back in this game. The reigning Western Conference champions took the game by a 3-0 scoreline and shut out their opponents in the process.

The big talking point from this game, though, has been the slashing incident involving Darnell Nurse and Roope Hintz. The incident took place in the third period when the Oilers were in control of the game.

Nurse would deliver a slash to the leg of Hintz, leaving the Stars forward down. A medical trainer would later come out to assist Hintz. After staying down for a few moments, Hintz was helped off the ice by his teammates Mikael Granlund and Lian Bichsel.

He would head down to the tunnel and was forced to exit the game. The officials would review this play for a potential major penalty. They later gave Nurse a 2-minute minor penalty for slashing his opponent.

While speaking to The Athletic’s Mark Lazerus, forward Jamie Benn came to the support of his teammate. He seemingly expressed that things would be different had McDavid received that slashing hit and walked down the tunnel like that.

We didn’t like it. If that was McDavid walking down the tunnel, I would like to see the result of that.

Speaking of the series, the Edmonton Oilers have now tied the series with a win in this game. The action will move to Rogers Place in Canada, where the hosts would be hoping to continue their positive run as they aim to do one better than last year.
