Davante Adams confirms his approval of Jimmy Garoppolo’s benching as Raiders QB in Netflix’s “Receiver”
After a dreadful start to the 2023 season which saw Davante Adams not receiving enough passes and Jimmy Garoppolo making too many turnovers, the Raiders decided to bench the quarterback.

Jimmy Garoppolo became one of the highest-paid signings of the last summer when the Las Vegas Raiders agreed on a three-year, $72.5 million deal. It was a no-brainer given his great relationship with head coach Josh McDaniels, despite his not-so-great sealing as a quarterback.
Following Derek Carr’s departure, the Raiders required a quarterback who fit the bill, so Garoppolo’s addition made sense. However, the Super Bowl winner struggled from the get-go.
Even though the 32-year-old had a pass completion rate of 65.1%, he only averaged 7.1 yards per attempt. Jimmy Garoppolo threw 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while contributing little to nothing with his feet.
This frustrated star wide receiver Davante Adams, who, despite playing his game, was unable to record catches because the ball barely ever reached him.
Analyst Warren Sharp posted an eye-opening statistic that showed that the 6-time Pro Bowler was targeted 26 times in the 2023 season and had zero drops, but he only caught 4 passes, which meant 60% of passes missed him completely.

he had ZERO DROPS on 26 targets
but he caught only 4-of-26
that's because nearly 60% of his targets were inaccurate
the most of any receiver in 2023
or 2022
or 2021
or 2020
poor guy just doing cardio
Adams’ frustration boiled over after a win over Garoppolo’s former side, the New England Patriots. During the Patriots game, Jabrill Peppers flattened the playmaker, leaving him immobile for a few seconds.

That incident was one of the highlights of the recent episode of Netflix’s mini-series ‘Receivers.’ After the challenge, Adams walked off and smashed his helmet into the ground in disgust. The cameras picked up on his conversation with fellow Raiders.
I gotta get the f**k out of here before I lose my f**king life. I’ve never been hit this many f**king times in my career. Every game I get f**ked up.

This was apparently the last straw before a big change.
Davante Adams reportedly signed off on the Raiders benching Jimmy Garoppolo
Jimmy G struggled with a sore back even before the start of the season. Following the Patriots game, the Raiders decided to rest the former second-round pick, which they eventually further upgraded to benching him.
Adams revealed in the episode that he had a part to play in the decision.
Well, my opinion on that was I signed off on that. And that's just the reality of it. You know, I love Jimmy, and he's a great guy, but something had to happen [in order] for us to have a chance down the stretch and in order for me to remain a Raider, in all honesty.Davante Adams said per Sporting News
Aidan O’Connell replaced Garoppolo for the rest of the season, and even though he could only manage a 5-5 record, there was better stability compared to the start of the campaign. O’Connell’s had fewer turnovers, which helped the Raiders finish the season strongly, even recording a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.
