This past season, Aaron Rodgers was going to be the focus on how the New York Jets season panned out. How he played was going to be the primary talking point, but along with it, the performance of his friends, Davante Adams, Allen Lazard and others, was also going to be scrutinized.
That is simply because the Jets essentially gave the 41-year-old QB a free rein. Even though they might not accept it, but their actions proved it. When the team fired head coach Robert Saleh, it proved that somewhere Rodgers was being consulted over personnel matters.
Then when the team traded for Davante Adams, it became even more apparent that they were listening to Rodgers’ demands. His goal might have been a Super Bowl, but it did not turn out as expected. The Jets had a tumultuous season where nothing seemed to work.
That may have led the team to make drastic decisions. After they hired former player Aaron Glenn as their next head coach, the moves so far seem to be based on what he wants. Now that they have moved on from Aaron Rodgers, his close friend is also going to get the boot.
The Jets are now taking calls on star WR Davante Adams, open to trading him prior to the start of the league year. No surprise with his $38.2M cap number. If they can’t get a deal, they are expected to release Adams, who could rejoin QB Aaron Rodgers with a new team.

This means the star wide receiver will be leaving the New York Jets soon. They do not want to take on that massive cap number. Having only the 21st best cap space heading into the 2025 season, the New York Jets want to start afresh.
Jets building new core with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams out
With these two players out, head coach Aaron Glenn has made it clear that he is building a new culture. That culture will see the players understand and execute a new system which he hopes will lead them to success.

Garrett Wilson had made his opinions clear on how he viewed his former quarterback. Now he takes over as the leader of that offense. They could, however, keep Allen Lazard on the team. He is still a reliable deep threat and earns $13 million, a deal that won’t affect them much this season.
However, the most important question the team has to answer is who their next quarterback will be. Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are on their radar, but at No. 7 in the draft order, they might not see either of them. They could draft a QB from any of the remaining choices, but then, will need a veteran.
That veteran could be Tyrod Taylor, whose contract expires next season, so they could keep him around as a bridge. The New York Jets are in for a rough ride next season as many crucial questions need to be answered. But at least they have made it clear that they do not want to keep any fragments of the old regime around.
