A lump sum of 60,000 people were in the queue virtually as soon as the presale tickets for John Cena‘s last WWE match were made available this Thursday morning. The unprecedented demand to secure the seats also sparked the debate over whether the company missed out on an opportunity to book a stadium for Cena’s swansong.
While the wrestling fraternity could go back and forth over it for as long as it wants, there’s a bigger fish to fry. Who would Cena stand across from in the ring on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event? There’s a litany of names that come to mind, but Dave Bautista has been pitched for the spot as well. WWE’s pre-show panelist Peter Rosenberg was recently a guest on Chris Van Vliet‘s Insight podcast.
Upon being asked to proffer his two cents on the probable last match opponent of ‘The Cenation Leader’, Rosenberg let the fan inside him speak for it. The latter mentioned that Cena’s wrestling swansong is set for Washington, D.C., the birthplace of one of Cena’s greatest WWE rivals, Dave Bautista.
Rosenberg played The Animal’s theme song on his phone and asked what if the fans at the arena hear the exact same thing at SNME.
……it’s super unlikely, and I’m probably reaching here, but when you think about what they represented a certain time, the last Saturday Night’s Main Event happens to be in DC, if you hear this (plays Batista’s theme).

Host Van Vliet was blown away by it and noted that he absolutely loved that music. However, the 4-time Emmy Award winner stated that he doesn’t think Bautista will come out of retirement at any cost. In fact, the Killer Game’s actor had affirmed on Vliet’s podcast itself that he’s extremely satisfied with the way he bowed out at WrestleMania 35 against Triple H, and he wouldn’t tarnish that.
Even though Rosenberg respected Bautista’s stance on hanging up his boots long ago, the Cheap Heat host added that the fan inside him was selfish and unsatisfied with how the actor retired. Rosenberg concluded by saying that he believed there’s one more story to be told between Cena and Bautista, given the storied history they have had in WWE.
Should John Cena lose his last-ever WWE match?
Having seen him put his body on the line for over two decades in pro wrestling, John Cena has established himself as one of the most revered figures in the business. A better part of the previous decade of his wrestling career has been all about the 48-year-old putting over the up-and-coming talent in WWE.

Does that basically confirm that he’d also want to pass the torch on to someone in his last match as well? Veteran female WWE star Natalya believes that Cena would probably refuse to win. Speaking on the Busted Open Radio podcast, the ‘Queen of Harts’ noted that the Peacemaker star has always been about leaving the business better than how it was when he entered.
On @BustedOpenRadio, Natalya said that she thinks that John Cena would probably refuse to win his last match at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event.

‘Nattie’ underscored the pros of going out on a high note and with one’s head held high. However, the niece of Bret Hart does think that if it were totally up to Cena, he’d lose and help put over his opponent. Amid growing speculation over Cena’s last match dance partner, some reports claim that Gunther is primed for it. ‘The Ring General’ has yet to return to WWE television after dropping the world title at SummerSlam.
He even had to fix a broken nose in the meantime. The company has reportedly decided to hold a tournament to determine who gets to oppose the 17-time world champion at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Cena is fresh off an incredible victory over AJ Styles and is next slated to appear on WWE programming on the November 10th episode of Raw in Boston.
