John Cena‘s upcoming retirement tour in 2025 has been a hot and trending topic since the Money in the Bank PLE. Many wrestlers have given their opinions about the Cenation Leader and have expressed interest in facing him. However, such a grand and extravagant way to go out may not be for everyone, including Dave Bautista.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Bautista revealed that he had a tremendous amount of respect for his fellow Hollywood superstar. There was no beef between them, contrary to internet rumors. However, they were very different people. He could never do something similar to Cena’s retirement tour. He felt that by doing so, he would feel disingenuous and uncomfortable.
The former WWE Champion said that he could never be the type of superstar who would say specific things just to get a positive reaction from the crowd. However, he totally understood where John Cena was coming from. The 47-year-old simply wanted a big tour in order to thank all his fans. However, it wasn’t something for Bautista, who was content by the way he bowed out.
I could never be the type of babyface who is saying good stuff because I wanted to get the crowd to cheer for me. I couldn’t be that guy.

Dave Bautista announced his retirement on Instagram in April 2019, shortly after his last wrestling event (WrestleMania 35). He said that if he had given a big speech in front of a crowd instead, it would have felt false to him.
It appears that Batista is retired for good. He claimed to have the perfect storybook ending to his career after facing Triple H at WrestleMania 35. Although he is tempted to come back, he is not willing to tarnish his perfect retirement.
Rob Van Dam wants a rematch with John Cena during his retirement tour
RVD, short for Rob Van Dam, arguably had the most iconic match of his career against John Cena. The Whole F’n Show cashed in his Money in the Bank contract at the 2006 ECW One Night Stand PPV. The Cenation Leader walked into extremely hostile territory to defend his WWE Championship, but he was unsuccessful in doing so.
A fan recently tweeted at Mr. PPV and suggested that he would like to see RVD run it back against Cena during the 16x World Champion’s retirement tour. The 53-year-old responded, saying that he was fond of the idea.
Rob Van Dam last wrestled a match for WWE in 2014. He exited the company after beating Seth Rollins on WWE Main Event.
Since then, he has worked for various promotions on the independent circuit, TNA, and a short stint in AEW. He did return to the company around the pandemic and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
