Bryce Young had probably one of the most trying seasons a No. 1 overall pick has endured. He was sacked the 2nd most number of times of any QB in the league and had to go through 2 head coaches and probably a difficult offense.
Now his 3rd Head Coach at the Carolina Panthers, Dave Canales, claims that Young is mastering whatever is being taught to him. While speaking with reporters after today’s voluntary full-team offseason practice, the first-time head coach was asked how Young was progressing in the new offense.
He's doing fantastic with it. As I expect him to do, he’s really mastering that part of it. So, really pleased.Dave Canales said
Dave Canales suggested that for this first practice, they have simplified their initial plays. So that their quarterback can get to grips faster than had they thrown 10 different concepts at him.
This approach speaks volumes for Canales’ patience with his young quarterback. He knows what the former Crimson Tide signal-caller faced in his rookie season. Taking all those hits and being a part of a team that finished with the worst record in the league is bound to take its toll on his confidence.
Therefore, this patient approach could help Bryce Young take it slow and progress as he gets comfortable. That way, Canales and his coaching staff can ensure that he does not make mistakes that could cost them games.
Bryce Young expected to take a year 2 leap
As he enters year 2, Bryce Young has a few better players who will line up alongside him. Chief of it was the improvements to the offensive line. 62 sacks is not something any quarterback likes if he has to throw the ball. If he has to throw the ball, he needs to stay upright. The Carolina Panthers have spent good money to ensure that happens.

Then they traded for wide receiver Diontae Johnson and drafted Xavier Legette at the end of the 1st round. Therefore, giving Young a group of solid receivers to catch his passes. These moves should help the 2nd-year signal caller take the next step, both in his development as well as that of his team.
No one is expecting him to make a CJ Stroud-like impact. But winning more than the 2 games they managed last season will be a good place to start.
