Dave Canales feels Bryce Young, who was benched a few weeks ago, played ‘well’ in Panthers’ loss to Broncos
Bryce Young, drafted first overall in 2023 by the Carolina Panthers, only had a three starts in his second season so far.

Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales vouched for second-year quarterback Bryce Young amid a recent loss to the Denver Broncos. The Panthers are last in the NFC South with just one win in the last eight games.
The defeat marked Young’s first start since his Week 2 benching, a move criticised by many. Young led the Panthers to only 13 points in his two earlier games, resulting in a disappointing 0-2 record.
Andy Dalton, who replaced Young in Week 3 sustained a thumb injury, opening doors for Young once again. The second-year passer slightly improved on Sunday by throwing for 224 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions, however, against Denver’s challenging defense.
Speaking to the media, Canales noted that there were some great completions in the game. The Philadelphia native completed 24 passes out of 37 in the game. He also noted that Young has made some major strides in cleaning up his game.
Canales withheld naming Carolina’s starting quarterback for the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints, noting that a decision will come soon.
Andy Dalton suffered a thumb injury in a minor car accident last week. The quarterback, his wife, their three children and their dog driving westbound on Sardis Road in Charlotte, NC met with an accident, cause unknown. Fortunately, none of them required any emergency treatment.
NFL analyst wants the Carolina Panthers to trade away Bryce Young before the deadline
Recent reports suggest that the Carolina Panthers will probably start Andy Dalton given he’s healthy moving forward. Despite a decent performance in his return, he hasn’t ensured his position for the next game.
The uncertainty surrounding the choice implies the Panthers may not view Young as the long-term solution. Given this, NFL Analyst Conor Orr contends that the team’s decision moving forward is straightforward. Orr noted that the Panthers should not hold Young in Carolina, restricting his growth and potential.
The analyst further suggested that if the Panthers don’t intend to trade Young, their approach to the trade deadline should shift. He noted that the Panthers should add more talent to support Young if they plan to keep him around. There are multiple avenues for Young with many teams with promising offers. Although acquiring new offensive assets seems unlikely, trading Young remains a real possibility. Whether the Panthers are prepared to make that move or still see potential in Young has yet to be determined.
