On Saturday, the 4 Nations Face-Off match between USA and Canada seemingly broke the internet. The intensity, fights and drama in this matchup between the two North American countries would also blow away $100 million worth Dave Portnoy.

In the past few days, the tensions between the two countries have risen after some comments from President Donald Trump. The 47th U.S. President claimed that Canada should be the “51st state” of the United States.

As a result of this there has been some booing from the Canadian and American fans at the National Anthems of their oppositions. All of this raised the stakes of the encounter on Saturday.

Tempers boiled over in the first few seconds. A total of 3 fights broke out between the USA and the Canadian players inside 9 seconds of the match. Two of them kicked off within 3 seconds of the game with brother Matthew and Brady Tkachuk stealing the headlines.

Dave Portnoy, who is a casual fan of hockey, did not seem to be too interested at first in this game. However, after a few minutes he would tune into the game and showed off his patriotism after being left shocked by the action from the game.

I didn’t care about this USA hockey game but that was 19 fights ago. Holy shit

It turned out to be a night of celebration for Portnoy and American fans as Team USA came back from 1-0 down to win the game 3-1. Goals from Jake Guentzel and Dylan Larkin took US past their opponents and booked their place in the finals.

Connor McDavid optimistic about Team Canada’s chances of making it through to the final despite 3-1 loss against USA

Canada’s 3-1 loss against the United States have put them in a state of bother. Earlier in the day, Finland overcame their rivals Sweden 4-3 in overtime. As a result of this, three teams are locked in on two points. Connor McDavid though is optimistic about the chances of going through the next round.

McDavid was the one who had opened the scoring for the Canada in this match. After receiving a pass from Drew Doughty, the Edmonton Oilers captain would skate through the field and tuck his shot beyond Connor Hellebuyck to make it 1-0.

Unfortunately, his team were unable to hold onto to the lead. Following the game, the forward claimed that it was a tight and emotional game and it “sucked” that it did not go their way.

It was fast, tight checking, competitive, emotional… it had everything that you would want in a hockey game. I thought, as I said, it sucks that it didn’t go our way, but it seems far from over.

Connor McDavid told the reporters in the post-game press conference

Canada will now take on Finland on Monday. Both teams would be eyeing for the finals against the United States and will know that one-slip could cost them the chance at glory. On the other hand, USA will take on Sweden and might rest some of their key players for the finals.
