$100 million worth Dave Portnoy fumes over Patrick Mahomes getting favors from referees during Texans playoff game
Kansas City Chiefs faced the Houston Texans in the Divisional round after a 15-2 season that saw them benefitting from officiating mistakes.

All throughout this past regular season, there have been countless occasions where it was evident that the Kansas City Chiefs benefitted from officiating errors. However, when playing against the Houston Texans in the Divisional round, one penalty flag involving Patrick Mahomes was all too obvious.
The said play occurred in the dying minutes of the third quarter when Mahomes and his offensive line snapped the ball at their own 35-yard line. After the snap, the defensive scheme broke the Chiefs’ initial play open and the superstar quarterback had to scramble.
He drifted to the right and as he tried to scramble back to the middle; he was stopped by Texans defenders Folorunso Fatukasi and Henry To’oTo’o. However, that stop brought out a yellow flag from the nearest official.
He discussed it with his peers and awarded an ‘Unnecessary Roughness’ penalty on To’oTo’o. That gave Mahomes and the Chiefs an easy 15-yard gain. Watching the replay of the incident, Barstool Sports president Dave Portnoy couldn’t help speaking his mind.

Portnoy tagged the official X handle of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in that tweet as he and so many others felt the league was intentionally favoring the Chiefs. The penalty was so egregious that the review official should have stepped in and reversed the call.

Naturally, the idea of a three-peat, something that has never been done in history, along with Taylor Swift‘s presence, is in itself a movie script that will push ratings through the roof. Portnoy believes the league is pushing the agenda a bit too much.

Dave Portnoy might be slamming his desk or shouting out expletives as Barstool Sports employees sit down to watch the games together. But some are at their respective homes watching and unable to vent their frustrations that way. One such person is Michael Jordan‘s teammate Ron Harper.

The talk surrounding favorable officiating will not die down anytime soon. Roger Goodell and his league will have to face the flak from many as they allegedly help shape this script. The next AFC Championship game will be a test as the Chiefs will face their toughest challenge yet.
