“I don’t like people making it race,” Dave Portnoy SLAMS Angel Reese for being ‘fake’ towards Caitlin Clark

Dave Portnoy wants Angel Reese to stick to one narrative instead of going back and forth.

“I don’t like people making it race,” Dave Portnoy SLAMS Angel Reese for being ‘fake’ towards Caitlin Clark

Dave Portnoy slams Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese for being fake towards fellow WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark

The WNBA right now is just trying to shed the race-based narratives that have dominated the headlines for the past few weeks. The centerpiece of all that is Caitlin Clark and the apparent advantages she receives by being ‘White and Straight’. Then there is Angel Reese, who has helped drive the narrative against her fellow rookie. But Dave Portnoy thinks the Chicago Sky forward is faking it.

Barstool Sports founder Portnoy was a guest on the Pat Bev Pod. During the episode, host Patrick Beverley started to justify that Angel Reese is a good player. However, then went on to explain why she is so unlikeable.

The one thing I don't like is people making it race. I would like Angel more if she just ate it. If she was just like, ‘I f**cking hate her (Clark), and I'm going to go at her, and I'm going to make my mission to make her life miserable'. But she doesn't do that. She acts that way, and then she acts like people are making it up. You've done one thing after the another. And then you're like, no, 'I like Caitlin Clark'. It's the back and forth that drives me nuts with her.

He feels Angel Reese is faking the hate narrative to gain out of Caitlin Clark‘s burgeoning fame. Dave Portnoy wants her to stick to it even if the media comes after her.

Portnoy might have a point here. Angel Reese started the rivalry concept during her college NCAA Tournament battles with Caitlin Clark. However, before this season’s NCAA Elite Eight matchup, she claimed that she does not have any hatred towards Clark.

But in their rookie season so far, Reese applauded when her teammate Chicago Sky teammate Chennedy Carter blindsided Clark. Moreover, she suggested that she is also the reason for the growth in popularity of the WNBA, which is a far cry from reality.

Angel Reese is setting new WNBA rookie records

Her popularity before coming into the WNBA might have been because of the entire rivalry she created in their college days. But since becoming a pro, Angel Reese has set out to quash all notions that she will struggle in the league. In her last game, the Chicago Sky rookie has dropped her 7th straight double-double.

That set the new record for double-doubles from any rookie in the history of the league. Her performances also helped her team win the game after losing 4 straight games. If she can keep this level of production up, and get the same from her fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso, the Chicago Sky can realistically look to secure a playoff spot.

That will be quite a formidable achievement, considering this was supposed to be a developmental year for Reese and Cardoso. Angel Reese is a strong competitor. It is possible she will set more records as the days go by.
