Dave Portnoy slams WNBA for not protecting Caitlin Clark after recent ‘pathetic’ incident

Seattle Storm and Skylar Diggins-Smith's actions on Caitlin Clark has Dave Portnoy furious with WNBA

In the last two games since coming back from the Olympics break, Caitlin Clark has been on fire. Her performances in both games have made many consider her as a favorite to win Rookie of the Year. It seems she and her Indiana Fever have turned a corner, winning against championship-contending teams such as the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm.

But something happened at the Storm game that has Dave Portnoy slamming the WNBA and its players. He took to his official X account to point out an incident towards the end of the game. A situation that brought back the hate Clark has been subjected to.

By now I'm sure you've seen Skylar Diggins-Smith assault Caitlin Clark after Indiana blew out Seattle. What I don't get is the Seattle coach is the one complaining half of the game. Hey ladies, grow up. Caitlin doesn't back down. This league doesn't know what to do with Caitlin Clark. She's laughing at you Skylar.

Dave Portnoy was clear that Skylar Diggins-Smith and the Seattle Storm were ticked off and retaliated. So much so that they were upset that Clark was hyping up the crowd in front of their bench. On the part of Caitlin Clark, she was just hyping up the home crowd. But the video Portnoy shared clearly showed Diggins-Smith upping her pace as she walked back to her bench and bumping Clark with her shoulder. Then her coach Noelle Quinn proceeds to complain to the referees and Clark’s coach Christie Sides.

What Portnoy has a problem with is that when the Storm beat the Fever in all three of their previous games, neither Clark nor her team cried about it. But this time as they were beaten by double digits, their emotions ran astray.

Dave Portnoy calls out WNBA officiating

That said, Dave Portnoy did not only complain about how the Seattle Storm behaved with Caitlin Clark. He also pointed out an officiating issue when they issued the rookie a technical foul. He shared a video with of the same as well, with a caption.

They tee'd up Caitlin for being mad at herself for missing a three. I've seen it all now.

Suggesting that the officiating needs to improve. The rookie did not do anything against anyone or anything. She just slammed her hand on the post.

Portnoy is correct to an extent here, as in the NBA such a move would not matter. But them giving the Indiana Fever star a technical foul suggests the standards are not the same. He wants the WNBA to fix these issues.

After all, he thinks that the WNBA is not ready for a player like Caitlin Clark, which means they are playing catch-up and are already making a lot of mistakes. Portnoy feels Clark’s game will force them to change.
