Dave Portnoy may be a successful media mogul and a pizza connoisseur, but he also has another title that he proudly displays as a medal. Portnoy is a huge New England Patriots fan, just like many others who grew up in Salem, Massachusetts.

So, it makes sense for Portnoy to attend the Super Bowl in San Francisco on February 8. However, there’s a tiny issue. He isn’t allowed to. Or, to put it bluntly, the NFL has banned Portnoy from attending NFL games.

The Patriots haven’t qualified for the Super Bowl since Tom Brady left for sunny Tampa, so people haven’t heard much from Portnoy and his beef with the league and commissioner Roger Goodell. Those memories flooded back in when he posted a tweet that caught plenty of attention from the X butterflies.

While league sources haven’t confirmed it, Portnoy is confident he’ll be able to attend the biggest football game at Levi’s Stadium. A Lucas Wideman report for TMZ gave him the thumbs-up.

I don’t think I’m still banned, I have 100% intentions to go watch the Super Bowl as a fan and enjoy it … but that’s what I did last time, and I got dragged out.

Portnoy declared

Why did the NFL ban the Patriots’ biggest fan, Dave Portnoy?

All roads lead back to “Deflategate.” The infamous scandal that nearly ruined Brady and the Patriots’ image. Fans of rival clubs still stir the pot whenever the GOAT debates come up.

And for good reason. Brady was suspended for four games by the league, which the folks at Barstool considered unfair treatment. Portnoy and three other members of his group organized a sit-in at the league’s New York headquarters to protest the ruling.

It was quite a scene. Police took action and escorted the four handcuffed individuals away from the lobby area. If that wasn’t enough drama, the league brought down the hammer on Portnoy and his buddies by banning them from NFL-sanctioned events.

That was nearly a decade ago. Portnoy used several tactics to watch live games. Once, he disguised himself with a fake mustache and wore shades. Who wears sunglasses at a night game unless? Anyways, it wasn’t enough to fool the stewards. A bunch showed up at his seat and dragged him away.

A lot of water has flown through the Michigan River since then. Will the ice between Goodell and Portnoy finally melt? It appears to be heading in that way. At the very least, Portnoy seems to believe it.

Breaking: I’m hearing that the NFL ban on Barstool Sports has been lifted. It feels like the end of Rocky IV. This hasn’t been 100% confirmed, but the Cold War may be over.

Portnoy tweeted

Fans have to wait until the Super Bowl to find the answers. For now, let’s appreciate the two teams, the Patriots and the Seahawks, for making it to Santa Clara.

Second-seeded New England defeated the Chargers, Texans, and finally the Broncos in the AFC Championship to qualify, while top-seeded Seattle overcame the challenge from the Rams in the NFC title game.
