The Los Angeles Dodgers are in a troubling situation. Following a 6-1 loss in Game 5, the reigning champions are 3-2 down in the World Series. A loss on Friday will see them lose their crown to the Toronto Blue Jays. Ahead of the massive Game 6, Dave Roberts made some interesting comments regarding Shohei Ohtani over Game 7.

The Dodgers will force Game 7 if they emerge as winners of Game 6. The MLB has not since a Game 7 in the World Series since 2019.

That year, the Washington Nationals were in a similar position after Game 5. They were 3-2 down against the Houston Astros, having lost for the third time on home soil. The National League side came back to win Games 6 and 7 on the road and emerged as World Series champions.

Since then, no World Series has reached Game 7. The Dodgers in 2020 against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Atlanta Braves against the Houston Astros in 2021 and the Astros against the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022, all ended in Game 6.

The next two seasons were followed by teams winning the World Series in Game 5. The Texas Rangers took down the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 in 2023. Last year, the Dodgers did the same thing and emerged as champions by winning in Game 5 against the Yankees.

Whether the Dodgers will play a Game 7 or not, only time will tell that. Dave Roberts, however, has already made plans for it. While speaking to the reporters, he expressed that everything was on the table regarding Ohtani’s role for Game 7 including him being in the outfield if the Dodgers win on Friday.

We’ll talk about everything. We’ll talk through whatever’s the best. If we get to that point, we’ll see, but he’s not going to play the outfield [in Game 6], I do know that. But, if we get to Game 7, we’ll have a good discussion about everything.

Dave Roberts told the reporters before Game 6

Ohtani could make an appearance as a relief pitcher in Game 6 if needed. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will take the mound on Friday after throwing back-to-back complete games.

Just 2 days after throwing his 2nd complete game, Yamamoto was ready to go and pitch in the marathon Game 3. Luckily, Will Klein was able to hold down the Blue Jays in the extra innings and emerge victorious. If Game 6 goes into extra innings, Roberts could turn towards Ohtani and give him the pitch.

Social media reacts as Dave Roberts reveals plan for Shohei Ohtani

Dave Roberts found himself getting mocked on social media on Thursday after he revealed plans for Shohei Ohtani in Game 7. Several users on social media reminded him that he has to first win Game 6 before thinking about Game 7.

Users on X trolled the Dodgers skipper for his comments. While some made fun of him for thinking about Game 7, some took shots at the team over their overdependency on the two-way star. One user wrote, “Let Shohei drive the bus too,” while making their feelings known.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Before the postseason, Ohtani offered his services in the outfield in the postseason if the team needed it. The 3-time MLB MVP has made 7 appearances in the outfield, all with the Los Angeles Angels, in his MLB career. Six of them came in the right field while one was in left field.

Shohei Ohtani claimed that Dodgers need to do bare minimum offensively to stay alive

So far, Shohei Ohtani has been the lone offensive hero for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason. When he fails with the bat, the offense fails too. Ohtani commented on his team’s offensive struggles and expressed that his side needs to at least do the bare minimum and put up some runs on the board.

The Dodgers managed just 4 hits in their Game 5 loss. Ohtani, along with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, combined to go 0-for-11 while striking out 6 times.

In Game 4, the team had just 2 hits. Following their marathon 18-inning Game 3 win, the Dodgers have managed just 6 hits across Games 3 and 4 and have been outscored 12-3 in those two games.

We’re facing quality arms this time of the year, against really good teams. And we’re facing the best of the best. So I think it’s not that easy. But at the same time, we could do at least the minimum to put some runs.

Shohei Ohtani said through Will Ireton after Game 4 loss

Time is running out for the Dodgers now. A loss on Friday will bring an end to their season and hand the Blue Jays their first World Series title in 32 years.
